Can't decide
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, November 26, 2003 4:45 PM
I'm going to attempt to build my first tank. Problem is I can't decide which one to do first. There are so many to choose from. I have built several WWll A/C so maybe that era. Any suggestions on a good kit to start with ? ThanksSmile [:)]

We need to have Dave post this as a stickey!!!

I'll jump in before all my fellow members do to say any of the newer (and a few of the older) Tamiya kits seem to be the favorite for a beginners model with most. I like the newer Dragon, but you've got to contend with individual link tracks, AFV Club has some nice stuff, and the list goes on.

If you're looking for 1/35, the Tamiya Tigers and Panther G's are very popular. Many have mentioned the T-34, if you can find one, and the Sherman's are nice, too.

If you want to do 1/72, Revell-Germany and the new Dragon issues are fantastic.

Good luck

Hey! Am working on my first German Tank kit, a DML Panther II. My first tank was an Academy Stuart. I did it last May thru June. Wasn't too hard to do. Did it right out of the box.

I agree with Bill's Tamiya suggestions ..... but I'll go a little further with the DML line and say don't cause yourself the grief on your first armour build by getting something that has indy tracks. Not they they don't produce excellent kits, because they do, it's just that those tracks can be a real bear to build ..... right Captain Caveman !!!

Being primarily a German armor freak I'd go with any one of the following: Tamiya
Tiger I, Panther, King Tiger.
