Resupply was done as quickly as possible. Usually the shell crates were off loaded from the munitions vehicle and the muntions truck would move on while the AFV crew were left to unloaded the rounds from the transport crates and into the vehicle racks - just like in the pic Dwight linked you to.

So here's another option.........an officer in a Kubel or such, berating the crew for being tardy loading up! Or you could buy 2 Marders, have one damaged by a mine or such, and have the crews transfering shells to the good one.

The Tamiya kit is faily old, but a reasonable platform to work on; I've built 2 over the years. The tracks do need replacing, but you can do a lot yourself with just sheet/strip styrene and brass, your spares box and some generic aftermarket parts like Eduard's 'Zoom' tool clamps, etc. Just use the pics in AFV Interiors to help here.

The crew would most likely get ammo to the gun anyway possible, maybe even the back seat of a Kubelwagen.

Hi again Wacky,

Try this link. Go through it through Page 2. There is a pic of a crew re-supplying the Marder II. You may be able to use it.

Good luck.

Cool, Thanks for the feedback everybody.
My model is a old tamiya kit, I haven't built it yet as I am looking for options in the after market products. The kit tracks are particularly ordinary! There doesn't seem to be much available for this vehicle or the PzKpfw II it was based on though.
I like the idea of putting a knocked out enemy vehicle petbat.

I have bought some german crew unloading shells from some ammo boxes, could the marder have been resupplied from something smaller than a Opel or RSO? Maybe the truck couldn't quite reach the marder so its cargo had to be transfered by something smaller. See ya, Wacky Bow [bow]

No Marder 2 schlepper's. The chassis were being used to build Wespe's, etc as well, so they didn't waste em on munition vehicles.

I've never seen a Marder II schlepper, but they used many different vehicles.

Now that I've had my fun with the Sherman comment, Wink [;)]Wink [;)] ....... didn't the Germans also have a Marder with the gun removed that they used as an ammo schlepper ??? For the life of me I can't remember if they did or not. Confused [%-)]

Maybe the Germanfreaks can add a little more info on that.

Perhaps a Henschel HS 129 or a JU 87 with 37mm to take out Robert's Sherman. Mischief [:-,]Pirate [oX)]

Hi Wacky.

The Marder was essentially an ambush weapon and when deployed for action it would be on its own, at least far enough away from its unit counterparts to make the dio far too big. To depict more than one vehicle together in a reasonable size dio, it would need to show the Marder being resupplied (as mentioned above), broken down, etc. Another option is for it to be passing a broken down / knocked out or abandoned enemy vehicle. Remember a dio should tell a story, not just show off a couple of models.

I presume you have done the old Tamiya kit and unless you have spent copious funds on aftermarket parts, you wouldn't want to spend a lot on the secondary vehicle. The cost of the vehicle might be your starting point.

If you want the Marder to be the main focus of the dio, keep it higher than the other vehicles (on a ridge, or on a road that is slightly higher than the adjacent field) and keep the secondary vehicle smaller than the Marder - J-Hulk's Kubel idea or maybe a schwimmwagon would be ideal, or even the old Tamiya KAZ Russian jeep (is it still available?); even a Kettenrad might be okay, but probably not if you want to use the BMW or Zundaf as well.

If you are going to use a bigger model, say an Opel truck/or Steyr RSO for resupply , have the truck offset to the rear of the Marder and to the back of the dio to keep the Marder as the main focus. Same goes for an abandoned tank or such.

Have a trawl through the dio forums for ideas on the placement of the vehicles to give balance. The net also has a lot of places to view dio's.

Have fun with the build, and don't forget to post the pics if you can.

Chris, then I'd have to build a couple more Thunderbolts to take out your Wurger. :)

My Marder II
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, November 27, 2003 8:40 AM
G'day folks,
I Have just bought a Sd.Kfz 131 Marder II. I would like to put this into a dio, I've got some crew and a german motorcycle + Rider, but I would like to put another vehicle in there. I assume this tank would not have roamed the countryside on its own, so I was wondering what type of equipment was usually posted with it?

Could anyone help?

Thanks

Wacky
