Academy IDF Achilles?!?
Posted by J-Hulk on Thursday, November 27, 2003 10:10 AM
Here's something quite interesting posted by Norio over at the Naniwa Sensha-tai site:

An IDF Achilles? By Academy Europe? I didn't know either existed! I haven't browsed the web yet, so maybe ya'll know about this new kit already.
Anybody know anything about this vehicle? Didn't know they used the Achilles. Makes sense, though, since they did get a lot of Shermans after the war.

Anyhow, just thought ya'll would like to see the pic!

Hmm.....now I know why my WW2 era Achilles came with the parts to build a .30 cal.Wink [;)]

I wonder if the extra sprues in this one includes corrections for the earlier one. Nah.....probably notWhistling [:-^].

A bit of a surf came up with some info. Apparently the IDF acquired some M10's in the 50's and retrofitted some Fench main guns to them, but the Achilles were from a handful captured from the syrians, not acquired in the normal sense. 2 of these Achilles are in Museums over in Israel.

We all learn something new each day.

Neither Cap'n. It was the 100 hours war 29 Oct - 7 Nov 1956, and it was Israel vs Egypt not Syria as we both thought. Israeli's started it by invading the Sinai and won in 100 hours (hence the name) when they stopped 10 miles short of the Suez (to keep the British and French happy)

The Six Day War was June 1967 and Yom Kippur was October 1973, both too late for the old Archers to have survived as effective weapons I guess.

Wish someone would do an injection moulded 1/35th Archer kit - It was an interesting vehicle and there are quite a few in museums to give a manufacturer ample reference. Didn't Dragon/DML do a Valentine once?

Captain, wasn't sure so I did a little surfing. I found this little Gem of a site for info on what was there. This is for a wargamming mob and they like to go into what you call detail!

Jon,

Thanks for the site. That's cool. How do you get them into your sig??

I don't think that's JarJar Binks, I thought it was Queen Amadala, but looking at the other ones they have of her, I'm not sure it is. Don't know what it's supposed to be for sure.
