The nice thing about armor is that, you can usually paint it all at once, when complete, you won't have to paint it in sections (like most aircraft)

You can leave all the excessories off and add them later or paint them the same color as the armor.

If you do a little forum search ,about the best first kit to buy, you will come up with a good selection. I would suggest starting with a Tamiya kit. The Sherman is a good choice. If you want German armor, the Panther Steel Wheel or Early Tiger can't be beat.

I would suggest that you should start with a one, that has a 1 tone camo pattern. Examples: Early Tiger in Panzer Grey, Sherman in O.D. Green.

The Sherman would be a good choice. I did one as one of my first armor builds and it was pretty straight forward with no tricks to it. The Tamiya M4A3 is the one I did and came out looking good. Good thing about tanks is that if you mess up you can always throw on a tarp, netting of call it battle scars. The worst part IMO is road wheels but there are some who have some good tips ont hose, I just have not yet gotten smart enough to try out alot of them. Good luck on your build.

Welcome Blitzer. You picked a good choice. The nice thing about the Sherman is you could use a spraycan if you don't have an airbrush. Also, unlike some of the later German tanks, no camoflauge to worry about. Eric has some good points about constructing as much of the base color as possible before painting, thus eliminating glue marks or whatnot. As for the roadwheels, many modelers are different. I prefer to spray the base color, then hand paint the rubber. Some people use circular templates to spray the base of the wheel. Still others glue them to the hull and spray the base color and back over them with washes etc. Sorry if I confused you, just that there are many different ways to build.

Welcome to the FSM forum blitzer. I am glad to see that you want to build a armor model. There are a lot of fine models out there. Tamiya has very good kits. The Panther and Sherman are good. Good luck on your build.
