How to paint?
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, December 6, 2003 9:23 PM
its my first time to paint an armored vehicle. I bought a panzer IV. What's the best way to paint it, glued it all first then paint or paint it by parts before assembling it? I'll be using a spray paint for this one and I already bought a German Grey wwII tank spray paint. are there other paints still I have to buy for the other parts? tnx

Hey Jedi, I'm workin' an old Italeri Panzer IV (Africa Corp). I've done most of the assembley except for running gear and tools. So far all I've got is the primer,( I used Testors grey primer in the spray can ) and I found it easy to get good coverage that way. My top coat will be Testors Africa Mustard spray. I'm new to the "Dark Side". I normally use a brush for all my paint so the spray can is new also but it looks like it's goin' to work out so far. Bob

This is one of those questions you get a wide variety of opinions. Personally I find it easier to assemble the main tank components that are the same base color and then paint the tools and such off the tank. Like I said though this one of those things that every one has thier way of doing and you'll just have to try different things till you find yours.

I'm one of those that will put everything possible onto the tank, tracks excluded, and paint the whole works the base colour. I then go back and start picking out the details with a fine brush.

Yes there are other colours you will need to purchase, black, gun metal, silver, and brown for starters.

I would suggest getting a Tamiya dark yellow spary paint, do everything while it is still on the parts racks, assemble it and paint different colors while your assembling, make it an Afrika Korp (corp...corps...korps????)not sure how to spell it. so you dont have to do any complicated cammo

thanks guys for the tips, Im planning to glued first the main body and paint it using spray paint and the tracks (including the small parts and the wheels) paint it individually. I guess its hard to paint the inside of the tracks once its fully assembled? Lastly if I will paint it in camo how will I do it using a spray paint?
