This is a fairly decent kit. Not the most accurate, but it looks like an M60 when completed. The T-142 tracks the kit comes with are OK, but not the greatest. The best and cheapest option is to replace them with the set from AFV Club. They are workable and look real good. They run about $10 or so.

The majority of the covering of the tracks is rubber. Just the center guides, end connectors and the track pin ends are metal. They tend to get a dark metal color. The rubber will look like an old truck tire.

BTW, the armor on the US M60A1 is not reactive, but passive. It is called applique armor. Reactive armor has an explosive charge inside to dissipate an explosive round. Passive armor is just extra stand off armor to detonate explosive rounds prior to them contacting the hull or turret.

The tracks are metal ? sighs the ones i bought is plastic.

Erh on the amour u might need to put in some handles as u can see from the box art. the handles can be done by using staples insert onto the amour. The spot for the handles maybe u check from the box art itself

Rob,

T-142 is the rubber chevron track? I can't recall and don't have books here.

No, T-142 tracks are the type with the replaceable football-shaped track pads.

Okay, so the shoe would be steel and the pads would be rubber... am I thinkin' right? Wasn't there also a rubber pad integral with the top of the shoe, and flush to it? I don't remember.

Ron.

As far as I know there were only two types of tracks used on the M60 tanks in US use. The older style that had chevrons and were used on early M48s, early M60s, and all variants of the M88/A1/A2. The newer style is T-142 and was used on later M60A1, M60A2, M60A3 as well as M48A5.

I built this kit several years ago straight out of the box (OOB). The tracks looked OK to me. The hull is the old Tamiya style, complete with motorization holes on the bottom of the hull, and space for adjustment to be made to the rear drive sprocket. Just a suggestion, but you might want to put in some styrene to cover the adjustment holes as well as putty up the motorization holes on the bottom. In addition, the piece of the hull that mounts the track return rollers is a separate piece. When you glue that on, be attentive so that the axles aren't tilted up or down; you may also have to do a little work to cover the seam where the two hull parts join. The rest of the assembly is pretty straight forward, and offers no real surprises. As I remember (I could be wrong here), the barrel has a separate piece for the muzzle, which had a slightly larger diameter than the barrel. If yours is like that, make sure to make it all the same diameter.
Good luck with your build! The kit makes a great model of a great-looking piece of armor. Post some pics so we can see it!
Hope this helps some.
