I like to hand paint mine with a dark gun metal for a base coat. Then after that dries for a few hours, dry brush over it with a red brown or rust color. Then when that is all dried well, I like to use a product called "Rub and Buff" Its used for the backs of mirrors. I just put a little on the tip of my index finger, then rub the excess off on a paper towel, then rub my finger tip over the raised parts of the tracks. This makes those parts that contact the ground look worn. I hope this helps a little bit. Chris.

hi , best to prime with diluted pva glue 50% with water leave to dry them use your normal enamel or acrylic paints , best to study a catapiller dozer on building site to see the true colours , personally i never use any steel colours to show wear but use light grey , it is less bright and is more dull looking cheers ian

What I do is a 5 or 6 step process ( depending on what tracks are being painted ) I usually start out with a base coat of flat Black and then give it a brown wash and then dry-brush with Silver, then dry-brush with gunmetal. The second dry-brushing will cover the Silver and give the gunmetal coat a more natural look. After that, it is optional to take a Q-tip and rub graphite on them. Then I will use Rub-n-buff on the raised treads. This method is for German and Soviet WW2 armor. I have gotten many complements on my tracks and most people think that they ARE steel. When I tell them that they are plastic, they are baffled. Good luck with your model.... ;)
