any kits w/ PE or complete interior?
Posted by Anonymous on Wednesday, December 10, 2003 2:12 PM
Just wondering about kits that come with PE and/or an interior (to make the tank that much more bitchin'). Also, anyone know of larger scale tanks that arent 1/35 and 1/16 (1/25) I saw one by a Russian company of a T-34 in 1/25 for 50$ but I didnt know If it would be worth it or even if I would understand enough to build it (if I could read it and I read "Interior" or "PE" Id definetly get it)

Any suggestions? I dont want to spend more than 40 for the kits in 1/35 or 60 for the 1/25.

Thanks in advance.

The Academy tanks often come with interiors. The Tiger I is the most famous example, I think.

As to the big'uns, the scales you mentioned are AFAIK the most common. If you want something in a wacky scale, usually it is a garage shop item and will cost you. There are humongous tank models -- 1/6th, I think -- that are quite pricey indeed. Maybe someone can fill in the gruesome details?

I know that Academy makes a Panther, and a Jagdpanther in 1/25th. the only one that is a static model (a late panther G) is about $40. As far as kits with interiors, Academy is the first company that comes to mind. The interiors are not usually very accurate, but you get a lot for what you pay for.

As far as kits with PE included, I think you may have to start looking at resin kits. If you have a specific type of AFV that you want to build in mind, I could probably be more specific.

hope this helpsBig Smile [:D]

There are also a few 1/72 scale Kits that come with PE, white metal parts and interior.

I got the Tiger I ausf. F that uses PE parts to simulate the Zimmerit coating.

Tamiy's 1/25 scale Tiger 1 comes with a complete interior. I paid just under $50 for mine back around 1991. They also made the Centurion, T-34, SU-100, Panther, Jagdpanther, and Chieftan. Most of these kits went out of production years ago. All these other Academy, Modelcraft, Toystar, etc. 1/25 kits are copies of the old Tamiya kits.

ITC also made a 1/24 scale T-92 Airborne Drop Tank (US light tank that was cancelled in favor of the M551 Sheridan). I've got one that I plan on building. It does not have an interior.

Jim Shirley Productions used to make 1/25 scale resin kits of the M1A1 Abrams and T-72 (might have been others) in the early 1990s.

Academy offers a 1/35 Early Tiger 1 with int.&P.E. screens.Not a bad kit.
As for larger scales, I don't know. My display space limits me to 1/35.

As mentioned, the Tamiya 1/25 Tiger I and Centurion have interiors ( the Centurion more complete than the Tiger). Bandai used to make 1/24 Panther Ausf G and King Tiger (Porsche turret) with interiors also.
As far as what's around now, I'd say Academy's Tiger I is the best. The M18, M10 and probably M36 (haven't built that one yet) aren't bad either. The Stuarts put out by Academy are nice on the outside, but inaccurate inside.

Tamiya's M113 and M2 Bradley come with interiors as do their M8 and M20 (mentioned earlier). And, the 1/25 scale T-34/85 and such are pretty easy to build... we were putting them together when I was in 7th grade (back in the early '70's).

SoapBox [soapbox] I think ALL armor models should come with interiors! (do you hear that Manufacturers???)SoapBox [soapbox]
