mgM: The Tarp Wink [;)] You were right, the lime/kiwi green wasn't a good match. Thanks for pointing me back in the right direction there.

Scratchmod, Doc: thank you, very kind of you both. I think I mentioned this before but this is a fun build: lots of washes, sprays, filters etc. Can recommend this one to anyone.

Edmund: Thank you for the compliments Edmund, the figures are not as hot as yours, I need more practice there. Paints used for them was mainly Vallejo (Khaki brown and Iraqui sand) and some lifecolor (getting to appreciate these more now I am getting used to them).

Cheers,

Julian Yeah!! [yeah]

Julian you have a done a fantastic job with the color modulation and making a monotone tank interesting and for lack of better terms providing texture.  I can feel the roughness of the paint job.

I really like your figures and would love to hear more about the paints and colors you used for them.  What company made them?

Again wonderful job and very inspirational!  Thumbs Up [tup](Squared!)

Excellant job Julian, I really like the weathering of the green paint, and the figs look great as well.

Love the look of your ISU, Grem56!Thumbs Up [tup] Such a beastly tank and yet you made it into quite the beauty. Especially love the new & improved tarp(much better colorWink [;)]) and the added touch of the figs.

Bill, Bill and Tony: thanks for the kind comments. This was a build that went right all the way and what is more important one that I felt at ease with during weathering and shading. Still a long way to go on developing my own style but I consider this the first step.

Bill: the figures are the Miniart (Ukraine) Soviet Tank Crew Winter 1943-1945. I order mine from : http://www.moduni.de/ . Excellent service and quick dispatch so if you can't find them Statesides try Moduni.

Cheers,

Julian Smile [:)]

I love ths one, Julian, the figures are nice, too, what figure set is that?

You influenced me with this one, see my recent Russian Ugliness/Obscurity post, I went a bit overboard.

I'm calling this one finished. Don't think there is much to add to, a lot I can spoil by further dabbling with washes. I'll let you be the final Judges on this build:

Thanks for looking in now and then over the last few weeks.

cheers,

Hi Terry, I have to use an optivisor to be able to see anything I build Big Smile [:D] Getting to be like the old blind mole (the "Stevie Wonder" of model building? ). Luckily I don't have to put up with the hysterical fits of laughter my two sons would get into when they saw me with the optivisor on now that they both live in Amsterdam Wink [;)]

Hi. Julian, your work on this oldie is first rate so far. I'm really enjoying seeing your progress as the entire project comes together.

Good luck painting your figures, I don't paint 35th figures anymore, can't see them.

Terry.

Guney, Edmund, thanks again. At the moment working on my trio of disgruntled Russian tankers. I still have trouble getting the eyes right so two of them look like they are tripping on magic mushrooms !Wink [;)] Hoping to have it all wrapped up tomorrow and I'll try and get some "beauty shots" up. Can recommend this kit/add-on combination, really enjoyed it despite the patent Russian "corkscrew" hull pieces.

cheers,

Julian Whistling [:-^]

Thanks Doc, I am really pleased with how this build is working out. It has certainly taken away any doubts on using Zvezda kits as a base (once you tackle the warped parts that is Wink [;)])

Yep, this is the Zvezda one I am building. The tarp will be getting a different color, you and Mikael have convinced me that something about the tarp is not in harmony with the rest of the build at the moment.Smile [:)]

Thanks Manny, nice to see you drop by. Actually the molding of the ISU isn't too bad. Problem was the warped hull pieces. Wouldn't call it a dog (did call it just about everything else.

I am doing the Zveda kit---is that the maker of yours? And you are right; it isn't terribly bad, just a lkittle soft on some details and unusable tracks...I bought MK for mine and an Eduard barrel, which I think makes the model look ultra-cool...

2 of the 3 pics are actually depicting dust covers for the gun matlet itself---I like the tarp, just think a contrasting color would look better...it matches the tank too closely and looks like you painted them together, which, IMO, doesn't look right...but this is nit-picking a really nice build...

Mikael, here come the tarps:

Think it's more a question of the color. Will try something else Smile [:)]

Sorry about that, but I just couldn't understand what it wasDunce [D)](I was thinking it was some sort of air recognition thing all folded up.) Personally I've never seen a ISU with a tarp anywhere on it in historic pics. That said, it is different and in a way adds something to the side of the hull. So I'm sorta 50/50 on the tarp, if you do decide to keep it the only thing I recommend is toning down the color, it looks a bit too lime.

Freakin' nice work on a dog of a model...really, really nice...

Funny about the tarp, when I saw it I thought it blended in too much with the tank. I like, just think it would look better if it was more of a contrasting color, like khaki...but, man, that is trivial compared to the overall build...

Just think of all the fun your going to have getting to #100.  And if the look half as good as this that is going to be one sweet collection.  Looks great.
