Hey, Iv started another build.  I got this at mosquitocon, got the guy down to 25$ on it from about 60 or so.

I'm thinking about putting a Guile camo on this, some plants and whatnot, but Im not sure of how to do it, any suggestions?  (I really want to know just incase the amssive seam on the barrel doesnt come out clean)

I'm already enjoying this kit, the wheels have more or less working suspensions, they way they were put together they spin and the tracks move, so there not stuck in place like most kits.  Also the tracks were vinyl, but they didnt need to be glued or like most, melted together, they had a metal pin/rod that slid through loops locking them together

Havent moved to the painting stages yet, im enjoying the construction (and playing with the suspension) to much to rush it.

The Machinegun is on a ball joint so it can turn (its a full MG inside the turret, not just the barrel sticking out)

All thats really left is to add some hatches to the top of the beast, and to stick the tools on before its painting time

Question, should I paint the Bottom chasis before I attach the top, should I do them at the same time, if I do the latter,w hat about the parts behind and under the skirts?

Lookin' good Smeagol! I have that kit in the stash and have been itching to do it up, just gotta wait for winter. It looks like you have 1-piece tracks? Mine has all the gear for remote control use but it also has indy-link tracks though. I'm wondering if they would hold up if I let my grandson play with it? He's pretty excited, thinking he can "drive" it, lol. Any-hoo...keep us posted and please let me know if you find any problem areas, it looks like a fun build.

So far the worst problem is fixing the barrel seam, and thats nothing new to any of us, meaning, this thing just falls together.  Mine didnt have indy tracks, nor 1 piece, they came in 4 pieces, two for each side, and are held to eachother by metal pins

Question< what colors did they use for camo on these monsters.  I know generically green, tan, brown etc, but when I went for my green all I had was a model masters acrylic 'Willow green' that was useable, is that to bright?

I actuially went and bought some new paint, so im using 'Black Green' and 'Hull Red' from Tamiya acrylic to paint this, looks really good.  Im painting the lower half right now  Im doing the wheels one red one green alternating, the oppisite side has the same scheme except reversed, the red wheels green, the green are red etc etc etc.  Once its dry and I get the paraflim off ill show pics

I have to show my amazing masking skirt I made inorder to keep the wheels safe while I colored the back a solid hull red.

The wheels and bottom are finished untill I go to weather.  I am painting the tracks right now.

Ok, my next issue was putting on the tools, the holes for attaching the racks were way to big for the pegs so I filled them and am just gluing the rack on without the guiding pegs.  Because of this (and the bad placement of the holes and bad instructions) one of the attachments wasnt put on right, so tow chain part (plastic molded) had to be modded.  I cut the plastic bit off and added a bit of Mecha Skunk snake chain I had gotten (I used it on my ma.k kit too)  It isnt exactly perfect, but it works for me.

Sounds like you're having fun with this one, and it's looking pretty nice. I picked up the Panther G kit from that series and it has the same type of tracks you've mentioned, but just 2 pcs. per side. I gotta get busy and clear the bench, I sooooo wanna tie into this one. I'm watching this one closely, so please keep us up to date. Got any plans for weathering yet?

As far as weathering im not planning on doing anything large.  Tiny bit of silver drybrushing, a wash here or there, some black dry brushing, just normal wear and tear.

All things considered that price tag puts you in the cat bird seat.  Too bad those tracks fit tighter than aunt Abby's bloomers, at least there's schurzen to obscure the upper run.   When I do barrels, first I line up the halves(even if this means loseing the locater pins.), glue w/ liquid cement an inch or two at a time, apply filler and let dry.  Next I do a rough sanding w/ a fingernail board ( The kind with foam beneath the grit.), knocking down the filler until a o.k profile is had. If needed I reapply filler to low spots and repeat the w/ the nail board. Now cut some #240 sandpaper to about 2"X4" strips, now "become the lathe".  Wrap the barrel like a weanie in wonder bread and while holding the ends of the paper, roll the gun back and forth, like your trying to start a fire and slide the paper wrap up and down the shaft (No giggling I know how this sounds.Evil [}:)]). Keep selecting fresh zones of the 4" strip of paper as you work. This will blend the seam and maintain the round profile of your gun.
The devil is in the details...and somtimes he's in my sock drawer. On the bench. Airfix 1/24 bf109E scratch conv to 109 G14AS MPC1/24 ju87B conv to 87G Rev 1/48 B17G toF Trump 1/32 f4u-1D and staying a1D Scratch 1/16 TigerII.

thats what I do, more or less, use this plastic glue that REALLY melts the plastic on each half, it leaves it goopy so when it dries it fills most of the seam.  I then used thinned putty to fill in the rest.  AFter that I do the lathe thing, wrap it in sand paper and spin that sucker around.  After that I use un-thinned paint to prime it and check for gaps.  If there are any, I sand the primer down with higher grit paper, using the paint from then on as gap filler till the seam is gone.

Tomarrow ill attach the rest of the tool holders to the tank, put those modded chains on and show some pics before I take it to the airbrush

Well, im getting close to the end of this build.  Here you can see the chains I attached, though there going to be painted seperatly along with the tools which will be done last most likley.  I have to reglue the chain to the attachments though, it came off AGAIN, im gona cut it a tiny bit so theres no glue residue on it.

Preshading, not much, just washes and painted in pannellines

One side of wheels and tracks finished.  Tracks painted black, drybrushed silver, not much to say.  the wheels painted as in previous posts, drybrushed silver then black.  I painted the roadwheels as well, took forever and I still have a side to do

Here is the kit being painted hull red.  Most of it is hull red, some is brown, I ran extremly low on hull red (though i just got the bottle) so I mixed some brown in, didnt change the color much

Im almost done, the camo on the top is finished.

Here is the first step, the yellow over the base coat.  The yellow was made by mixing a tank that no longer has a color name on it (been rubbed off) and yellow.

After that I put the green (Black Green) in more stripes

All I have to do now is attach the top to the bottom then fix the seam/gap in the front then redo the bit of camo there.  Then its just a matter of weathering it a lil bit and doing the wheels on the other side.

in the 2nd pic with the 3 ones you can see a wierd splotch on the green.  Thats now fixed, and there was alittle paint gooping (where it ran down the front and made a little raised ridge) thats fixed too.

Thanks, im glad im getting such a nice responce on this.

I asked earlier on the forum how to clean out bottles, well nows a good time to show why.

I have a paint adapter for the small Tamiya bottles so they can go with my airbrush and well.  Take a look why cleaning and reusing them is good.

Now  I have that color yellow I mixed in a full, clean bottle with the lid showing that color, and not in some random small jar I can misplace or in a one time use mixing cup :D

!/25 scale is a bit of an oddball armor scale. Tamiya makes (made) a 1/25 Tiger that would be a nice companion piece for your Jagdpanther.

I was only able to get this because of how cheap I got it for.  While I really enjoyed this scale I doubt Ill beable to do another this size for a while.  Though, If I could find a Stuart in 1/25th I'd buy it asap
