German BMP 1A1 'Ost' Finished! Plus Two WIP Pics
Posted by Duke Maddog on Monday, December 15, 2003 6:31 PM
Okay, I have finished my BMP 1A1 'Ost' about 4 days ago, but haven't had a chance till now to post pics. I apologize for the quality of the pics, I have a cheap digital cam that only takes semi-clear close-up shots. Black Eye [B)] I tried to sharpen things up as well with PaintShop Pro 7, but you still can't see the wash and drybrush too much.

Anyway, Here is the pic. Hard to imagine it was an ACE kit can you? Clown [:o)]

Also, while the paint was drying on this one, I've been working on a couple more kits: Another two ACE kits: A Russian 2S1 Gvozdika Self Propelled Gun, and a Russian BMP 1. These Pics that follow show them right after I applied decals and just before I Dullcoated, washed and drybrushed them. That will happen tomorrow.

First, The Russian BMP 1:

And the Gvozdika:

You can still see how shiny they are! Blush [:I] That Future works great!

I also have a Russian Su 7 Fitter and a Japanese F4J Phantom II building as well, but my camera isn't up to the task of shooting pics of those.

Oh, just so everyone knows who the Duke of Small Scale Armor is: Evil [}:)]

Ugly sonofagun ain't I? Eight Ball [8]Wink [;)]Cool [8D]

Comments welcome!

Those are good looking models. Would you recommend the ACE kits? I'm almost feeling brave enough to post pictures of my models and my face...haha

I'd only recommend the ACE kits to someone who has LOTS of patience and some experience in building Small Scale Armor. They are poorly molded in such a way as to require extensive clearing of 'flash'. At least three hours were spent just clearing 'flash'. Censored [censored] Many times the fit is very poor. For instance, on every BMP I've built, (I have a BMP 2 building now) the lower hull angle in front is NEVER sharp enough to meet the top hull when it comes time to put it all together. Banged Head [banghead]
So, if you want a real serious challenge, then I'd recommend an ACE kit. Once you get past all the hassles, they do build up into great little kits! Approve [^]

Well, I have the BMP 1 completed as of yesterday, along with the 2S1 Gvozdika, I'm about 1/3rd done with the BMP2, which I'll try to post more WIP pics of. I am half done with an F4J Phantom II and an Su 7 Fitter, and I just started the interior of a UH 1C for my Australian Air Force. After that, I'm not sure.....Blindfold [X-)]

My thanks to you frosty! You are truly a credit to your generation! Bow [bow] Your Quote from 'Amadeus' is brilliant, and has finally explained to me why my wife has stayed married to me for so long, at least in other areas not concerning models. Cowboy [C):-)]Thumbs Up [tup]

It doesn't reference her opinion of my models; she can't stand my collection. That's why we bought a 2-bedroom condo, so I could 'lock away' my collection in one room, while she enjoys the rest of the 'model-free' house! Captain [4:-)]

And to the rest of you, thank you for all your support. As I mentioned, I'll do what I can to get more pics later today of the two finished kits, and the BMP 2 WIP. Unfortunately, I can't get pics of the aircraft and helo, my camera is not up to the task. Still, I have lots of Small Scale Armor left to build! Maybe I'll start the Iraqi T-55, or the M 2 Bradley, or the Cromwell, or the MTLB, or the .......
