Greetings and Salutations from the Big Sand Box
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, December 15, 2003 11:17 PM
Hey All!
I know this is off topic a bit but since I don't really hit any of the forums (I am addicted to the "Dark Side")Evil [}:)] I thought I would drop a line and let you all know that Afganistan is still hereBig Smile [:D] I have a couple of more days until I have to start running patrols out to the hinterland so I should have time to settle into my lovely tent along with the rest of my team.... on the good side of this deployment It is the last one... My wife put it to me rather well just before I left, "Don't you think 22 years, 6 shooting wars, and 2 marriages are enough?" I would have to say I agree with her 110%... Not to mention that I am getting a bit long in the tooth to be chasing the "Bad People" as my youngest son calls them...

Everyone take care and thank you for all of the kind words before I left.

MSG T. Sweet

PS I finally got to upload a couple of pictures but for some reason I can't attach any to the postSad [:(] If you're interested you can see them here http://rongeorge.com/modules/Gallery/view_album.php?page=4

Hey, great to hear from you! Glad to hear you made it over there okay and you are getting settled in. You and your team take care of yourselves out there!! Wishful thinking perhaps, but maybe your team will be the ones to pick up bin Laden. How memorable would that make your last deployment?!

Be safe and God be with you!

Nice to hear from you! How often do you get 'on line'? I'm wondering because my Guard unit is also on alert and we're awaiting either mobilization or stand down orders.. It's nice to be able to plan, isn't it?

Greetings once again from the Big Sand Box!
well here's a quick update...
At the moment I am in the hosptial here in Afganistan... Seems I zigged when I should have zagged and caught a small peice of angery metal in my upper thigh... The good news is that i have a week or so of light duty before I get to go out and play again... But at least I can catch up on my beauty sleep (Lord knows I need it) and get online and check the forums for a couple of days.... I got a few good shots of some BMP's and BRDM's that as soon as I can I will post or email to anyone who emails me and wants 'em...

Well take care guys...

Tom

Good to hear you're ok!
Keep that luck up for the rest of the deployment!
I'll be going to the other sandbox soon.
Just a small question though, are they still giving out combat patches for everyone deploying now or am I crazy?

Redleg,
Yep, if you get into a combat zone even for 24 hours now you get a combat patch... A couple of pieces of advice before you head over there... 1) Take any class your unit is offering, even uderwater basket weaving, if you think it will keep you alive whenTSHTF... 2) Always remember that your weapon/ weapon system was made by the lowest bidder and will tend to have a nasty habit of failing at least once right when you need it most (always carry back ups if you can)... and last but not least 3) Keep your head down and come home in one piece!

Take care,

Tom

Well Here I am in sunny Hawaii!!! My wife decided that I should be at home and let me know in no uncertian terms that she would prefer that I do so before I picked up any more new holes;) So I put in my packet and here I am.... My team rotated home early in perperation for a new mission to the "other" sand box ... I am sad that I am not going to be going with them on the one hand and very happy to not have to do PT for awhile on the other hand... There are only a cuple of hobby shops here on the island and man do I have a lot of stuff to buy:) So many new kits.... And lots of free time....

Thank you for all of your paryers and good wishes while I was gone....

Glad you're back, glad you're safe! I know how you feel. We were placed on alert in November only to have it rescinded in December... happy and disappointed at the same time.

Enjoy your 'buying spree'!

Happy retirement.. I hope you don't drive everyone nuts out of boredom like my dad did after he retired from the KLM (Royal Dutch Airlines, for those who didn't know..)

Thankfully there was another company that hired him quickly, as their retirement age is higher...
