My first completed 1/72 pics
Posted by lizardqing on Saturday, December 20, 2003 8:34 PM
Well here it is. Big Smile [:D] Only took me nearly a month of off and on building but I finally got it done. This is Hasegawa's Jagdpanzer IV late version. There are a couple of things missing from it such as the periscope, have no idea what happened to it and the front tow hooks. Learned the hard way not to squeeze the tweezers to hard Banged Head [banghead]. Fortunatly the instructions said they were optional anyway. The paint job could have been better Ashamed [*^_^*], not used to trying to spray such fine lines and all plus I had never done free hand. Let me know what you think of it, can't say for sure if I'll try this small scale stuff again though. A friend gave me this one but did'nt know it was so small, was pretty suprised when he saw it the other day.

Edit:

Threw the quarter in it so my brother would see the difference in scales.

Main thing I figured out was it's a PITA to put the tracks on after the top hul section is glued on. Looks like sometimes you really have to follow the instructions.

Doesn't look too bad at all Chris ..... I know I wouldn't want to be working in this scale again. In your third pic, your tracks look a little pigeon toed, not sure if you can straighten that out at this point or not.

Do like the camo job that you've done. Looks good !!!

Thanks for sharing !!!

Thanks Robert. I tried to fix the trak but I believe that is the result of putting them on after the top hull. Things were starting to crack and pop the more I tried to fix it so I just left it alone.

Don't sweat the paint.

As a rule, the real paint jobs were applied by the front line units or by the crews. There is a great deal of variability in the paint jobs.

It looks real nice Chris. It's kinda hard working on this scale at first specially if your used to do the bigger ones but I guess you'll get used to it. Nothing a little weathering couldn't fix.Big Smile [:D]

Great job Chris. Still amazed at how people make those small kits kook so darn nice. Ditto the camo job. Panther should be easy to paint now. LOL

Just throw a tarp on it, right Robert?!?! Wink [;)]

Looks good Chris!! Especially for 1/72. The camo came out fine I think and over all good build. I won't even try 1/72, nope, no way, no how, a mans' got to know his limitations!! Big Smile [:D]

That is actually excellent work! Too bad you're giving up so soon! We could still make a Braille Scaler outta you yet! :-)

Thanks everyone. Guess the camo ain't that bad after all. Maybe it's true about being your worst critic. I might try another brail scale one day , once my wife saw it she said thats all i should build since it don't need much room.

Hey Chris, You did a pretty good job on that lovely little kit..! Other than the track that Robert mentionned, nothing to complain about. It's all praises from me! Well done. Hope your experience was not too bad that you'll never do more 1/72 - 1/76 again..! LOL

Not bad for a first try on a 1/72 scale LQ2. Looks good to me. We might all convert to 1/72 or 1/76 later with display spaces running out on us. LOL.

Nice job, Chris.

Chris (Lizardquing):
it looks really good...great job on the camo !
the hardest thing about small scale modeling is the "tweezerpult" factor;
i think 4 every hour of modeling time, 15 minutes is spent down on my hands & knees on the floor looking for the part i dropped...Clown [:o)]
then u give up & decide 2 make a replacement part...
then almost w/o fail, u find the lost part right after the glue sets on the replacement.
i've learned 2 hold the part down gently w/ a finger while cutting off the last bit of sprue. it keeps it from logging any unauthorized flight time !
& remember, u can fit about 3 or 4 1/72 afvs in the space of 1 1/35 kit,
& the price is usually a lot more affordable...
but small scale isn't everyone's cup of tea, i know !
thanx 4 sharing ur work !

LOL, I deal with this a lot in 1/35, can't imagine it in 72 or 76

Man, I thought I had that fixed. Think some more pastels might do the trick? Tongue [:P]

Thanks for the compliments everyone, I might try the small scale again if its something that grabs my attention. I think I might loose what little sanity I have left if I did noting but this though, kudos go out to those that do for sure.
