just got a....

I just picked up a couple tanks, both are 1/72 and are a berge panther, and a berge tiger.
the bad thing is I had no idea that LEE's 1/72 kits were like toys but I'll see what I can whip up I guess? Still I like the two subject vehicles and would love to find them in a 1/35 or do a scratch?

You've got several options for 1/35.

BergePanther:
Italeri made a kit. It's got a few mistakes, but it's a good place to start.

There are several Resin Conversion for BergePanthers.

Berge Tiger:
There is the old CMK kit, but it really stinks. It's based on the old Tamiya Tiger I (the original) and the rest of the parts are less than stellar at best. But it does have a PE set and its parts can be used as patterns for scratchbuilding one of these. This is the route I'm taking (I didn't know about the kit when I bought it).

I think Italeri also made one of these in 1/35.

Have Fun! Neither should be too hard. The BergPanther has several options for a kit/conversion and the BergTiger is not that hard to scratchbuild.

Hey, Redleg,

What's the patch? Is that unique to your unit?

CMK is a "hodge podge" of quality.

They issued a series of German armor by combining old Tamiya kits with their own parts and some PE. They had a Bergpanzer IV, a Bergtiger, an Ostwind, and a StugIII late. The additional parts which were supplied were crude at best. They were molded in a soft white plastic with crude detail. The original prices were on the high side ($50). They have since then been marked down and can be found occasionally for around $10-$20.

All of the kits were based on the Old Tamiya versions, not the new retooled kits and as a result suffer from the problems in the older Tamiya kits. The PE was not enough to cover the whole kit, so if you wanted to do it full, you were going to have to purchase another set anyway. I've not seen this series of kits for quite some time so I am assuming they are now out of production.

The CMK volkswagen series and their Pzkpfw 35T series are buildable kits. And to my knowledge are the only ones of these vehicles/tanks in plastic in 1/35.

CMK also has a line of resin kits. These are made in conjunction with Airmodell. Therefore, the quality is the same as Airmodell.

No, they aren't all bad, but you do have to be aware there are some dogs in the line.

I'm working on the 1/72 scael PIOmodels Bergepanther right now. Great little kit that includes the hull of the newer Revell Panther D/A along with a resin turret plug and some PE parts.

Myabe you can salvage the kits by buying the Revell of Germany Panther and Tiger and using the CC Lee berge fittings.

Whoops, forgot to direct you to 1/35 variants. In addition to the multimedia kits listed above, Italeri makes both a Bergepanther and Berge Tiger.

The Bergepanther is kit #285 and the Tiger Support Vehicle is #362. Both run about $20-25 a piece.

good looking out everyone, I appreciate it big time.

I was playing around with the idea of switching out my dragon RC 1/72 kursk tiger turret for the recovery turret? It fits pretty good and does look pretty cool? I also all but finnished the OOB Lee bergtiger kit (had to see what it looked like stock, same will go for the lil' berg panther), I think the next time I get these kits it'll just be for some spare parts to convert the other kits, I'll also post some pics.

the raod wheels and tracks are all one piece, the haul is a two piece, the turret is all one piece with the tube mount attatchable, the boom and gears are very crude but I guess workable, all in all if it's mounted in a dio with lots of mud you might not notice the bad kit?

Ron, the patch is actually a pin that is my units crest ( 1st battalion 7th field artillery ),we're part of the 1st infantry division. We wear them on our beret's flash.

the red is for artillery, the flowers are for the texas flower ? ( i can't remember right off hand what the flower is, but the unit started in TX in the early 1900's ) the three moons are from luneville france.

Most of our guns are named after battles from WWII starting in Africa to Germany that they fought in.

Cool. What I was really thinking of was the skull and sword, thought that might be a distinctive patch for your 'off duty' uniforms, like some tank battalions have. Naming the guns after battles is a great idea. I'll have to run that past my Psg. Beats the heck out of names that sound somewhat infantile.

Hmmmm. I haven't skate boarded since I was in high school! What fun.

Have a great holiday!
