First tank you built?
Posted by Anonymous on Thursday, December 25, 2003 1:23 AM
Gents,
do you remember the first tank you built?? Mine was a 1/35 Tamiya King Tiger, with motor, that I asked my dad to buy when I was 14 or so and saw it in a toyshop window. I do remeber the kit was very bad, with few parts and ugly rubber tracks. And I painted it with glossy paints in a crazy camo pattern. But I was transfixed by its beauty and got the virus forever...
Merry Xmas from Spain.
Alvaro.

Oh yes. Monogram's Panzer IV in 1/32 scale. Built it in one night. I did a lousy job of cleaning pieces and did not paint it. I still thought it was very good at the time.

Like Dave, mine must have been an Airfix kit... I built most of their catalogue at one time or another... As to the exact model, I do not remember, but I know I had at a time several Shermans in my 'collection'...

First tank I owned was Monogram's 1/35 scale M48A2 Patton tank. Dad built it for me. First tank I built by myself was the 1/48 scale Aurora MBT-70 with working suspension and vacuformed base. I still have that kit.

1/76th Matchbox Comet. That was a nice tank. I remember using hardware paint on that kit. It ended up all glossy and green.

Can't really remember what the first tank was .... 1/72 or 1/76 something or other.

But I do remember what my first 1/35 armour kit was .... Tamiya's Sd.Kfz.232.
Still have it one the shelf today ..... it's been redone a couple of times since but always deserves a place on the shelf.

It was the start of the armour bug for me .... nothing but since that day.
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

My first tank that I remember, I think it was a Tiger. All I really remember was it molded in tan, came with a diorama molded base, had little springs on the suspension, and was big for me at the time ( I was 9 and I think it was 1/35 ). I didn't actually build it. The working suspension was just to much for me.
The first tank that I did build was a couple years later. A 1/72 panzer IV painted it my own custom color real close to OD. I was very proud of that tank.
Trevor Where am I going and why am I in this handbasket?

5 years and about 5 months ago, I built a tamiya Sherman, worked very well, but I didnot put one drop of paint on, and had some terrible glue stains, but I got the bug after that and abandoned my ships in favor of armor, besides that they are much easier to store.

1/35 Dragon M4A4 with indy tracks and a bad transmission cover fit.

How can I forget?

Well, my first armor kit was an Italeri M8 Greyhound Armored Car, but I really screwed up the bottom-every axle is broken in a few places. BUT, it turned out nice-sorta-and it now sits with my other models, and will always be the first one i show off.
My first "tank" was Tamiya's KV-1, I disliked tamiya for it-because before that, I had just built a Dragon half-track-I got more for my money with that-the tamiya kit turned out nice, but extremely easy-i have never forgiven tanks yet, but maybe tamiya tanks will get a second chance with my king tiger, and dragon one with its T34 1940, and my fliegen panzer.

My first tank was a STUG.III AUSF.G 48scale from monogram. That was way back in years.Number two was one of those old lingburg 72 scale JSIII.On the panzer I painted it sand yellow and used peices of sponge to apply the red, green combo. It gave it a look of a airbrush.

First armour kit finished was a Monogram? 1/35 Sturmgeschutz in late 1977 or early 1978. Painted the figure that came with it silver and spray painted it some metallic green from the rattle can. First tank was a T-34 85 1/72 scale in 1979. Brush painted it dark gray, but it didn't look too bad.

Wait a minute, Monogram didn't do 1/35th. It was 1/32 scale.

but since i started building again a couple years ago it was a steyr rso with the closed cab boxy look to it and the frame for a tarp on the back truck style bed.

I need to fix that same model due it took a wrong turn off of my desk recently.

It's a toss up. I built both in or around '72.

1/48 scale Aurora Centurion
1/76 scale Fujimi KV-I

Memory is a little foggy that far back!
