Best place to buy
Posted by gormoneeye on Friday, December 25, 2009 12:39 PM

This has probably been asked many times over, and for the life of me I don't know how to word it for the search engine to find any previous threads of this topic. That being said, I recieved a 1/35 scale Tamiya Pz.Kpfw. IV Ausf.J for Christmas from my wonderful wifeBig Smile. So, I would like to do it some justice and purchase metal tracks, metal barrel and some other aftermarket "detailing". It already comes with photo etched zimmerit.

Can anyone please direct me to the best place, in their opinion, to purchase the parts I need. I live in Canada so of course it would have to be mail order. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.

It's not what you think you do that counts, it's what you do that counts when you think . . . I think?

Oh, as for plastic for Christmas, I also recieved two "wingy things" (even though my heart is with armour), and my 8 year old daughter gave me Dragons' 1/35 German Snipers.

if you are going for online buying try ebay, hobbylinc.com, or scalehobbyist.com.

Scale Hobbyst has the best prices by far. Sprue Brothers are super fast shippers. Both have excellent customer service as Squadron too. These are my main sources.

A lot of people have hit or miss with Greatmodels, but I've never had any problems with them. Just be sure to order "In-Stock".

Anymore, ebay is my preferred choice.

Not sure if they have any good deals  on AM stuff, but www.riders.com has great deals on paint.

I use ebay for most of my PE sets and gun tubes, however I've found that tracks sets in general are just as inexpensive/expensive from online dealers as on ebay. I use Sprue Brothers, R&J Products and Squadron most of the time.

Personally, I like Luckymodel. They're cheaper than most of the stateside shops could ever hope to be because they're based in China and for small items like Photo Etch the shipping is usually free. I just bought the new Bronco Panzerwerfer 42 for $55 including shipping. That's about $25 less than stateside MSRP without shipping.

Great Models is as one gentleman said, hit or miss. I won't order from Squadron anymore because chances are they do not have it in stock. A close friend of mine works for the local shop and has all but stopped dealing with MMD (Squadron) because of their lack of actual inventory. Spruebrothers is very fast yes, they tend to be a tad more expensive but if they say it's in stock then it IS in stock and you'll get it within a couple of days.
