German winter camoflage

I have recently taken up model building again, but I am new to armour - I used to build 1/43 resin car kits.
I have got the hang of airbrushing camo using masks (thanks to tips from this Forum), but I want to build a Tiger I in winter camo (Russia early 1944). The best I can come up with is to airbrush using Tamiya dark yellow, then add a top coat of "dirty" flat white before weathering.

I understand that the white was added in the field using water soluble paints or whitewash? What would be the best way to simulate the white paint coming off to show the yellow underneath, due to weather and abrasion?

I have tried searching the Forum to no avail.

take a look at this link...it's pretty thorough, and i know a few people have used this technique...i plan to when doing wittman's '44 tiger....

Thanks for the link (and the welcome!). Been "lurking" here for a couple of months, and I have learned a lot Smile [:)]

I guess I will need to improve my freehand airbrush skills. Just got an Iwata Eclipse (with a pre-set handle), so now I just need to practice.
