White-34:  Sorry man I don't know your name and you didn't fill out a Bio so please excuse my rudeness for not addressing you by name.  Thanks for stopping by and I am glad I was able to get you excited about the possibilities with this older Tamiya kit.  You should see the directions they are as yellow as my family bible!

Build Update:

I was able to finish the trailer today and i followed the same method as the Flak 38 except I added two coats of Vallejo Calvary Brown shot through my AB to provide that rusty metal look I like so well.

THAT is beautiful.

  Aww Shucks!  Thanks Steve Iam glad you like it!   I still need to paint the leather straps and one half of the reflector. I drank to much coffee tonight so I will wait until tomorrow for that detail when my hands are steadier.

I iwll be hiting the Horch tomorrow!

The hairspray technique, is it a mist coat or full coverage and I assume it lays flat / smooth after it drys? Im brave enough to just do it without playing on scrap first, just need to confirm it won't leave lumps.

 Bob:  Sorry Bob I forget to reply been a little busy.  My little guy got the flu yesterday and it was my first experience with a two year old really sick.  Man I tell you it sucks feeling helpless when they don't know what is going on.  I love that little guy with a fierce love so it wasn't a very good day yesterday but he seems better today which is a blessing.

SupressionFire:  I apply three medium coats that leaves the surface quite wet and then I apply liberal use of my bench hair dryer.  Just remember that if you use Tamiya as a base coat water alone will probably not work for chipping.  Use a little Isotropy alcohol on a damp cotton bud and it will work like a dream. I would suggest a coat of Tamiya Clear before the HP layer which helps prevent chipping going through to the primer.  Hope that helps and remember to use magnification while you are chipping and some patience with rest periods in between in order to achieve scale chipping.  It is very easy to overdo this effect "less is more" is the mantra you should chant to yourself as you stand on lone leg whirling in a circle!

First things first.  I am relieved to hear that your little guy is  doing better.  I understand the dad thing (my boy has got asthma) The ICU RN in me is also relieved since wee ones like that getting the flu puts up the hair on the back of my neck.

 Dave:  Thanks Dave on both accounts the little guy is going to be just fine!  I stayed up most of the night checking on him.  You know emotional maps made before and after children are much different aren't they!

I hope you are going to be at the Pearson show on the 13th in Vancouver. I am bringing the Sherman, AS 42 and the LRDG Chevy,  It should be fun!  I am going to drive up that morning and meet you guys there.

I read you 5x5 on the emotional map issue. I'll check my calendar in regards to the Pearson show.  I've got a belt testing and tournament coming up and, I've double booked myself more than once.  Heaven knows, I'd love to come up and see you and Bob. Not to mention the builds you've listed.  If I bring anything it would probably be the Panther, since it's the only build I've done since the Evergreen show.  Eric I believe is out of country at that time.  Some place sunny and warm.  I still have yet to meet him.

  Wayne & Dave:  Parenting can be a thankless task at times but I console myself that I will walk up to my son when he is a teenager and knock him out of his socks when he leasts expects it and then we will be even for all this baby stuff! 

Build Update:  I did manage to start painting the Horch tonight and after going back and forth I dediced to use MM Acrl Sand as a basecoat over the Gunmetal and Calvary Brown.  I folowed the same HP method as docuemnted on the weapon earlier in the thread so I will not go into much detail but show a few pics in progress and where I am at now.  Model Master Acryl and Life Color paints chip quite easily with warm water. After chippign I applied a few different filters form MIG.  I used Brown for Dakr Yellow and Tan for Dark Yellow follwed by a llittle streaking with Mig Nuetral wash.  I also decided to leave the gun deck in primer to add visual interest and will weather in place with Mig pigments.

Another fine build is unfolding before us yet again!  Your attention to detail proves that OCD is not an affliction if properly channeled.  The one that caught my eye on this go around is the right headlight assembly is slightly askew.  Yet, another detail when combined with all the others, convinces the viewer that this one has been off the dealers lot for a while.

Is the convertible top resin? Scratch?  I'll give you a call this weekend.  

As always, it is a treat to see what you've achieved.

Build Update:  

Fantastic work.  So delicate looking!  I wanted to comment on the Eduard PE and on PE in general since you mentioned this was the first time using the Eduard stuff.  Be careful and check your references against the PE you are adding to the kit.  I had a very bad experience with Eduard and a Pz IV E front mudflap.  Their PE was completely, totally inaccurate. Aber, another PE company was exactly correct though.  I had spent several hours trying to get the Eduard mudflaps just right only to find that they were completely wrong.  I had to scap the whole thing and revert back to the kit supplied plastic mudflaps.  Just be careful and check your resources.  I failed to do that and it cost me bench time and Eduard failed to do their research too.

PE is a wonderful modern torture device for people that think too much.  Sometimes due to durability and scale reasons it makes more sense to use the kit part.  In this kit I chose to thin down and detail the kit steps rather than use PE because it simply did not look durable enough for me.

Build Update:   I continued the color shift theme and painted the doors a little different tone than the rest of the vehicle and subjected each component to the hair spray treatment. I decided to use the kit supplied decals which were very old but performed admirably.

I like the tonal variation you've done with the doors.  A very nice touch indeed!  I'm going to have to give the hair spray method a go one of these days.  What color did you use on the tires?  I like it.

Looking good Edmund, decals look perfect and you'd never know their age by looking at it. Definitely like where this one's headed!

Dave:  Thanks Dave I sometimes use differnt MIG filters on certain parts of vehciles to introduce tonal change and color shifts but I thought I would get a little more drastic with this one as you can see by this picture filters and washes can be played like a good instrument to create the tune you are looking for.

Wbill:  They were petrified so I let them soak for 10-20 minutes in warm mineral water before using Microset to set them.  I also applied pre and post coats fo future follwed by a light coat of MM Flat Acryl to prepare for additional weathering. 

Sorry Dave I forgot to answer your question about the tire color.  It is Floquil Weathered Black which is just a fantastic color for tires and road wheels IMHO!

Im speechless...................really I am.  I have to consult Websters for a new vocabulary to describe your work Ed.  Stunning is not enough.
