Just about anything goes Blitzer .... no set pattern whatsoever. Sheets were thrown on during the Battle of the Bulge with some vehicles.

One of the time life books from that silver WWII series-Battle of the Bulge, has some strange pics of halftracks and shermans wearing sheets-white sheets as camo.
you could always do that.

Blitzer, I realize this is art work on the cover of a book, but it does show the way the whitwash would wear away over time.

Blitzer, I'm beginning to feel your pain.

I've searched the web until my eye's have crossed, and as yet I have not been able to find a picture of a Sherman, M36, or M10 in winter garb. I even looked under "The Battle of the Bulge" and didn't find anything.

I'll still look, but I'm not having a lot of luck yet.

They will look similar to German Winter Schemes except the Allies had plenty of Whitewash and as a result had more vehicles which were entirely covered.

Keep one thing in mind though, at the beginning of the Battle of the Bulge, the Allied vehicles were still in OD, they had not received any whitwash yet. It's just a thought.

Sorry, I cannot find a picture of either an M10, M4, or an M36 in winter garb on the web. Lot's of restored vehicles in standard OD.

Here are a few books you can check out that I know do have pictures of Shermans in Winter Garb in them. These books are reasonably priced.

Squadron: Sherman in Action
Concord: Sherman at War Part II

Concord also has a book on the Battle of the Bulge, it too probably has some pictures of winter camo's on Shermans

I will keep scanning the net and see what I can find. Maybe someone else knows exactly where there is a pic on the web of a Sherman, or M10,or M36 in winter camo.

That depended a lot on the crew and how big of a hurry they were in.

Some of the winter schemes were where whitwash was just thrown onto the vehicle and then "rubbed" around with something like a mop or rag.

Some were carefully done and had some of the base color showing through as a pattern.

All of the winter schemes wore off rather quickly and the vehicle then started to take on a dirty/grungy appearance.
