Thanks for all you input guys, it's more than enough to get me started. Special thanks to Rob for that tweak list. What do you folks think the ratio of reference time is to actual build time?

You are welcome. I sometimes get too wrapped around when building modern US equipment. I've got ready access (too much access) to too many vehicles. Something don't look right, I walk out, take a shot, print it out, next day decide I need a different shot from a different angle...

I tend to build WW2 armor or foreign modern armor (non-US) straight out of box and just do basic modeling tasks like covering motorization holes, drill out ports, thin some parts, etc. I do have a lot of reference books though.

John, got your e-mail. Here is an M1 Abrams tweaks list I worked on with a few other guys about 2 years ago. It hasn't been updated to include post-Desert Storm USMC specific changes such as the MCD and different smoke grenade launchers nor does it include Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF) updates such as CIP (combat identification panels) or add-on turret bustle racks.

Should give you more than you need to make some adjustments to your Abrams. I also helped do some of the research on the Archer Fine Transfers for Abrams markings currently in use in Iraq. They sent me a complimentary set of transfers so if you are looking for a particular set of markings used in OIF, let me know and I may be able to point you in the right direction.

The Tamiya kit has the older M-1 tracks. AFV produces a track kit which is workable of M1A1 and M1A2.

I haven't got that kit, but I'm sure there are plenty of aftermarket parts from Eduard and other brands to enhance it.

John, The Tamiya new tooled kits could be built straight out of the box with great results.

Just picked this kit up and I was wondering what it needs out of the box to improve it.
