does history = model building

I love history. The American Civil War, World War II, and the Roman Empire are my fastinations. I love to learn anything I can about them, and that has run into problems with my teachers when I was in high school. I wouls always correct them when they gave wrong information. O that pissed them off. HAHA. I found that that passion for learning about WWII has carried over into my model building. I started with airplanes and now I am starting to build armor. I love American vehicles, sorry German Armor buffs, but I think american stuff is really cool to look at and build.

I have the urge to research about what I'm modeling. That's why I find it really hard to build 'out of the box', because rare are the models that are accurate enough, that fit the picture, or the particular event I'm trying to represent.

I read the history books first, but then got into model building after visiting the Patton and Wright-Patterson museums. I have done WW2 reenacting in the past which gave me a greater appreciation of what the soldiers went through. Now I find I enjoy building a book collection just as much as building models.

I think J-Hulk hit it on the head and we need to know a little history just to make our models look right. Of course if I had the room and $$ I'd have a real half-track.

i think the more you know about history and stuff, the better your tanks will be. you will know where to place accesories, and accuracy.

For me, I'd say it's an interest in world history coupled with a fascination with machines. It's amazing what mankind has done with its machines, both for good and evil.

me too, i'm a military history buff, for me Napolionics is my thing and WW2. i read about it, i build the figures, and i reenact it also. lately i have been finding the Imperial Roman era very interesting also.

Just a military and military history freak myself...ww2 being the most interesting subject, expecially things that ppl's from ma own country were in volved in....

I too am a big history buff. W.W.II & American Civil War. That's why Shermanfreak is so fitting for me...covers both areas of interest.
