AIRBRUSH!!!

Welcome Mamacat. FSM magazine just had an issue (Jan 2004) on beginner airbrushes. You may want to check it out. They also have another issue (Feb. 2004) that covers double-action airbrushes. You will get plenty of opinions here. I own a Badger 200. Like it very much. Very affordable.

Welcome Mamacat, I started out with the trusty Badger 200. I know it's a little pricey, but as long as you clean it well it'll last you a very long time. I've still got and use mine although I use an Aztec 430 most of the time now.

i can't realy coment on single action brushes. i use a badger 150 double action and i have been realy happy with it , works very well. double action is a bit harder to learn to use properly from what i have heard but it does allow you more control. i'm starting to consider getting a badger 200 now single action would be nice in some situations. either one of those 2 would be a safe bet i think , i know badger also makes another line of airbrush under a different name that is supposed to be very good but also more expensive

One thing I can suggest to you is , avoid a single action airbrush they are very hard to work with regarding camouflage jobs , they are good for overall spraying of base colours . But unless you can control the flow of air and paint german type camo jobs will be almost impossible . But that is just me here, some of the others may have some tips they could give you there with single action . ( Paasche VL here, love it !) Also try to avoid using canned air ( will cost you a fortune in a very short time !) Good luck !.... Shawn

Welcome mamacat! We used to have a black cat that we called mamacat.

I use a Badger 150, I bought it second hand for only 40 dollars, which I felt wasn't bad. I mostly use it for airbrushing Future on my models, since I have a small Hobby Room and no spray booth to control; the paint overspray. And since this is Southern California, I can't spray outdoors on my balcony because A) The Association won't allow it, and B) I'll end up with a fine coat of Smog sticking to the wet paint!. Hey, maybe that could be a good weathering technique! :-)
