Getting Started
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 12, 2004 12:42 PM
I'm returning to modeling after many years. I live in Ocala,FL which is 30 mi south of Gainesville and approx 80 north of both Orlando & Tampa.
Can any of you recommend a reputable dealer who could assist me with selecting a good model , paints and tools needed to get started again
I love this site...very informative...thanks for all the great pics and info

If Renarts (Mike) see's this he can point you to a few shops as he lives down that way Paul. Welcome to the forum and back to modeling!! You could edit your topic subject and put the Ocala, FL part in it and it'll probably catch his eye quicker.

Eagle,
all i can recommend on the paint front is that each brand and type (enamel, acrylic, etc)
has their fans.
start out w/ just what you need to get started.
then if you want to change brands or types, you won't have a 30 jar investment staring you down!

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] Paul. It's great to have you join us. There are lots of topics titled similar to this one about recomendations for first armor kits. Have a look back over them.

But as a quick overview, you'll find that Tamiya's newer kits (read that as more expensive) are really good first builds. Academy also has some nice ones, as does Dragon, but Dragon kits have tracks with individual links, and many modelers (even experienced ones) consider them overwhelming. They add 2-4 hundred parts to the kits, on the average. Some consider them worth the trouble for the added realism, some consider them a must.

Be sure to ask any questions you'd like here. You'll get lots of answers and help from the other members.

Welcome, again.

Welcome to FSM Paul and welcome back to the modelling world.

As already mentioned, Tamiya's kits are some of the best engineered on the market ... costly ... but go together very well. If you check out some of the threads here and ask a couple of questions then it really doesn't matter which store you use because you'll already have the answers you seek.

Enjoy the forums !!!!
Happy Modelling and God Bless Robert

Welcome Paul, glad to have you aboard. Do you like American, German, WW II or modern armor? Might be able to help narrow a choice down.
