Yes, there is a big difference.  The USMC LAV-25 is a generation 2 LAV hull and it has a 25mm turret mounted on it.  The US Army Stryker is a generation 3 LAV hull and the normal varient does not have a turret.  The Gen 3 LAV/Stryker is wider, taller, and longer than a LAV-25.  The whole vehicle is just bigger and beefier.

Yoou can see the difference below with the Canadian (same as USMC version) LAV-25 on the left and a Canadian LAV III (same hull as Stryker) on the right.

For future posting reference, it is best to put the subject in the post title so it will show up in searches later when others may be looking for the same info.  A better title would have been, "Differences between USMC LAV-25 and US Army Stryker?"

Wow i guess their is a big difference.  I appreciate the help and the tip about the title, im still pretty new here.  But thank you.  Do you know if the generation 2 is still in service?  I wouldnt imagine they still are where the new STRYKER is AWSOME!!!!!

Yes, they are both still in service.  The USMC uses only the Gen II LAV-25.  The US Army uses only the Gen III Stryker.  Canada uses both as well, in a bunch of different configurations.

The USMC has been using the LAV-25 since the mid-'80s and has too much invested in them and too small of a budget to upgrade to Gen IIIs.  Also, they are well suited for the role the USMC uses them in, Light Armored Reconnaissance.

The US Army started looking for a medium armored vehicle in the early 2000's to outfit its new Medium BDE concept and wanted something a little more robust and capable than the LAV-25.  They picked the Gen III and have fielded about 10 different versions of it to fully outfit the Medium BDEs.

I have been active duty Army for almost 17 years and an armor modeler for longer.  After a while, you pick up these things.  I have more trivial minutia bouncing around my brain than I care to remember.  My wife will fully attest to that.

Haha thats awsome!!!  Well thank you for the service you provide our contry.  I was to in the military but had an unfortunate accident 4 weeks into Boot camp that landed me in the hospital for 8 days, then 30 days of convolessant leave then 3 months of re-hab only to have the (I believe she was a major) tell me that I had to go home.  But my best friend is in Georgia right now and is a 2nd leutenant and is learning to fly black hawks at the moment.  But anywas thank you!!!! Both for the service to our contry and my modelling questions.

Thats for sure!!!!...LOL......I won't show her this!!!

Anyway....my "brother" Gino did not even get into all the "technology" that is in the Stryker.

It is bigger....smarter....more powerful and of course a lot more expensive!!

Great explanation Gino...nice comparison shots!
