Super-cool! I picked up the ZTZ-99A kit earlier this year but it doesn't have the digital camo. Kudos to you for all the work you put into it!

Thank you all for the comments.  The mantlet cover is a lighter green than the main color, but with my meager photography skills it seems darker than it is.  I'm not sure how many squares I had to cut, couple hundred at least.  I hope that more countries don't go to this type of camo - as interesting as it looks it is very time-consuming to replicate.  The US tried a similar version in the 1970's (dual-tex) and dropped it so hopefully they won't try it again.

Bronto,

That is a nice solid build you've got there sir.  The nit pick that caught my eye was the mantlet cover.  I looks to be a fabric type cover and with that the color might not be the same as the colors around it. I could also just be a color shift with my monitor.  The overall work is really quite good. The weathering is not overstated.  I looks like something that has been is the field but not gone long without maintenance.  The tracks look good from what I can see.   I love that camo scheme you did.  So how many tape squares did you cut to mask?

Cheers

Dave

Yes Loving the camo job! Yes  You just made me wonder why Americans are not doing the same especially that their uniforms carry digital camo nowadays...

Awesome job, Bronto!

My hat's off to you guys who can do that digital camo.  That's waaaaay beyond my meager skill level!

Thank you for the kind words.  The camo is real, the Chinese have been switching over to it for the last year or so.  It wasn't difficult to paint, just tedious masking with small squares of tape.  The kit gives you a 1/35 template, but there are problems with it in that the patterns from the sides, front, rear and top don't match up, so it ended up being pretty useless.  The kit itself has some fit issues - the biggest ones are on the turret front and on the hull around the turret ring on the hull.  The tracks also are not very good, with the connectors molded to the links, so when you get to the curves, you have to bend the connectors to match the angle between the links.  I wasn't able to judge the accuracy of the kit, because I couldn't find much information on the tank itself, just a few pics and general descriptions (that seems to be the problem with most of the Chinese kits coming out - not much in the way of reference available).   Hopefully someday a modern Chinese tank crew will get released.

Very cool looking tank, not sure I've ever seen one. Is that a real camo scheme and how did you do, with little squares of tape?? Turned out really well!
