Question regarding Dragon 1/35 SS-1 Scud with MAZ543
Posted by Anonymous on Monday, January 12, 2004 9:28 PM
Hi,

I'm thinking of buying and building this model, but before I do, I am curious about a few things;

1) How is the fit of the parts?
2) Is it a headache to build? ok? or so and so?
3) Are the tires in the kit made out of vinyl/rubber or are thery plastic?

Thanks.

It's been awhile since I built this kit, but this what I remember:

1) The fit is good, but there are some parts that are fiddly and difficult. IIRC, I had most of my problems with the suspension.

2) I liked building it, but I am biased towards Russian/Soviet armor.

3) The wheels in my kit were vinyl. I don't think an aftermarket set exists for this kit.

I wish I could remember more about this kit, but I built it several years ago. I do recommend getting the Eduard P/E set for this kit. I used the exterior set, but did not use the interior set. HTH.

I bought the reissue under the Shanghi Dragon label.

This has been a long time.

As well as I remember my kits tires were plastic.
Eduard had two PE sets for this thing. An interior set and an exterior set. Both were some of the early Eduard sets, so they were not very involved as I remember.

I hope this helps.

The Eduard sets are no longer in production, either interior or exterior. They may be considering re-releasing both of those upgrades, but I've heard nothing about them yet. From what I've heard, the re-release of the S/D kit also now includes figures, where before you had to purchase the Kirin kits, which are also out of production.

Everything I've seen and heard about this kit has been fantastic, if you can wade through the nearly 400 pieces required to get this thing looking good. Lots of room for modifications and superdetailing, too. IMHO, go for it!

Thank you for the welcome shermanfreak.
I've recently started building armor kits after wading into aircraft and ships. I started with the Revell 1/72 T-80 and after that I was hooked. But I do occasionally build an airplane and a ship or two.

And also thanks for the info regarding the Dragon Scud. But I'm a bit confused regarding the tires. kaleu says the tires are vinyl while latch66 says they are plastic. I would be grateful if someone can clarify this for me.
