1:72 Panzer IV update PICS!
Posted by Anonymous on Tuesday, January 13, 2004 10:24 AM
Okidoki peeps and peep-ettes..

Here´s an update on my zimm test Panzer IV.. Not too happy with the camo, but still fairly happy with the zimmerite, I reckoned I´d just go to town on the weathering.. so behold, a well biffed Panzer IV in the making. Still debating on adding the unit markings though.. Comments are welcome, as always, but bear in mind I´m testing various things on this rig.

I like it a LOT..! Adding the markings would also mean re-doing some weathering.. I'd leave as it is. It's superb! Are you going to Trucks'n'Tracks at the end of Feb..?

Biggest armor show in Europe, held in Folkestone over the last week end of February. Since you come time to time to those shores, I thought you may visit this show...

Ah, I doubt it, unfortunatly. Maybe if work sends me over I can wangle something, but I don´t think so.. Sorry about that. Unless a miracle happens.

Very Nice! I know I can't do that in 1/72 scale! Wow!

If I live in UK I'd go to Beltring! The world's biggest 1/1 armor show... not to mention frequent trips to Bovington!

Nice job, Michael. I think it looks great. How did you do the zimm? I haven't dared try it on a 1/72nd, but I've got some kits begging for it! Especially this Elefant!

Hey now! Looks like a tank -- it's got me reaching for my bazooka out of instinict! Good work.

I like seeing the humdrum workhorse built up. Like the Bf-109, it's come a long way, baby.

Is the Zim Lee Press On stuff, is it part of the kit, or did you do it yourself [:0]?

I did the zimm myself.. I have a pair of tigers waiting to be built, so I thought I'd experiment a bit. I went out and got an inexpensive kit I could hide from the missus, so I found a 1:72nd scale kit. What I did was use liquid cement and a screwdriver. I painted the hull with the glue, waited a moment for it to work into the plastic, then pressed the screwdriver into the soft plastic, creating each and every single zimm-thinggy. See the link to the previous post on the zimmerite: http://www.finescale.com/fsm/community/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=12854

Awsome, I gotta remember that camo scheme, its hand painted right? I might try something similar to get a feel for cammo jobs. I only done one in my life and it isnt very good.

You guys like the camo? Its the bit I like least.. But thanks for the compliments.

Anyway, I was looking at pics of panzers on the net, and saw that a lot had coursly sprayed or hand brushed camo, of which no two are the same. I figured that a course faded edge wouldn't show up on a model this scale anyway, and by brush painting it, it added to the hand painted improv look. Also the consistency fades here and there, like on a large rush job. The skirts took all of 5 minutes to paint in camo. Another reason is that the finest lines I can squeeze from my cheapo airbrush are about 1/3rd to 1/2 inch wide. The over enthousiastic weathering hides a lot too.. Gotta love armour modelling Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] My favorite bits are the inside of the turret skirts and the 3/4 front views..

As for the camera angles.. That was just hit, miss and cropping in photoshop..

The camo is unique, that's why I like it. It is nice to see a variation every now and then.

Bill, Your model very nice also. I don't think it needs any zimm. Looks good as is.
