On modern tanks all the fire extinguishers are kept on the inside and are red and aluminium with black plastic bells or nozzles. I'd guess they're the same on WWII vehicles as well, but I'm just guessing.

I've got a book with photos of restored tanks (an M4A1 and M5A1). Inside the fire extinguishers are clearly red, the M4A1 shows a red with black hose/cone. Of course these could be modern civilian fire extinguishers and not period representative. Modern US armor uses civilian off-the-shelf (OTS) fire extinguishers that meet the basic safety/type requirements. Sometimes you end up getting a fire extinguisher that doesn't fit the rack.

The instructions on my M3 Stuart called for the fire extinguisher being red with silver handle and gauge, black hose. I think it started being standard back then for extinguishers to start being red to be easily identified in an emergency particulary once they quit making the soda acid type that were brass.

in our paladin and cat we have somekinda hala......on system (I can't remember what it's called ) but the tanks are red and it has like a worn white painted metal cone that has slots all over it to direct the gas all over the cab area. I also don't think the older vehicles had stuff like this but I could be wrong ( it might've been just an extinguisher hooked up to something similar?).
