My build list for 2010
Posted by madmike on Monday, January 3, 2011 11:44 PM

I started so well for the year, with the aim of at least ten built. But after my holidays in June, our middle daughters wedding and the arrival of our first grand child....

Because the later half of the year has been so busy, not much time for all the forums I frequent either Sad

I did paint plenty of 25mm miniatures this year, around 50. In 2011, I am determined to even out the aircraft/armour ratio and build at least 12 kits.

The Matilda Hedgehog was an Australian concept to provide extra bunker busting capability against Japanese holdouts. With the simple addition of a Navy ASW "Hedgehog" mortar launcher, trials began in Queensland late in the war. The conversion though was never used in combat. One preserved example exists at Pucklepunyal Army Museum.

It is the ancient and venerable Matchbox M40 GMC.

How well does it build up and how much would you say one can be found for?

Don't you build in braille scale? If so, even more impressing. That Matilda is crazy stuff.

It is a bit of a challenge, quite basic but still fun to do. You can purchase the kit quite readily on eBay in either the original Matchbox boxing or the more recent Revell one. Best to go for the older Matchbox original release if you can.

Yes, these are all braille scale :)

The Matilda was a fun build and I am aiming to do another from the Middle Eastern theatre. All the parts are in the box for a Middle East version.

Whats braille scale?

Braille scale is commonly 1:72 and smaller.

One of the more common explanations to why it has been called braille scale is because the small size of parts and the overall finished kit  completion "sends you blind"

I prefer the scale for both aircraft and armour as I can have most displayed in my display cabinets.

Missed seeing your stuff around on the forum Mike, looks like you had a good year for 2010 even if you didn't hit your preferred quota (I can relate to that too!). Looking forward to seeing more of your mini-masterpieces in 2011! Beer
