Has anyone ever seen a plasitc kit for the Ratte, the GIANT kruezer tank mounted with a battleship gun?  Even something half its size would have made a difference in ground and pound warfare.

Are you talking about one of the German "paper-panzers'? The one that mounted 11 or was it 8 inch guns? It would have been a battlefield flop due to it's weight and speed. Sure it would have been a beast, but how would you get it from A to B?

I don't think that there is a kit of one yet...though at the rate they are producing paper panzers one is likely to appear on the scene, probably in 10 different variants that weren't even conceived.  As to its effectiveness, it would have won the war for the allies sooner than it was--all the resources and materials consumed would not have justified the effort.  Besides, the air force would have blown it to oblivion regardless of any AA defenses that it had mounted.

A 12" projectile circa WW2 for a naval gun weighs around 850 pounds. The 12"/41 gun in use on dreadnaughts had a rate of fire of 1 round per minute. A turret with two such guns took about 60-80 men to operate.

Not to mention fire control, electrical power source, and so on.

I guess it looked better on paper, hence it would look good on a modeler's display shelf.  What paper-panzers have you seen on ebay? I dont even know what search terms to use.

This vehicle was to be over 35 meters long or 100ft and armed with 2 11-inch guns similar to their pocket BB's.

That would be one huge kit in 1/35 scale. Perhaps one day in braille. I could have sworn I saw a buildup of one. i think it was scratched.

I'm not sure if there is a good way to do a specific search on the paper panzers; mostly if it looks 'modern' or 'weird for ww2' are my criteria, rather subjective I know.  The most identifiable are probably the Maus, and the E-series from Germany.  Several companies produce models from these almost-reality tanks.  (The Maus was real...sort of, and I think I've seen photos that have been claimed to be the E-100's hull tub)  The others are a bit more random; based on the Panther chassis or something different; these can range from tanks to anti-aircraft.

If this is scratchbuilt, they've done a pretty good job......must be 1/72 ?  I imagine it would be massive in 1/35.
