GMC M-19

CMK of Czech republic do a resin kit of this (expensive -- don't know its accuracy).  Otherwise, you're left to scratchbuilding, using the lame Italeri M24 Chaffee for the hull.  If you're an experienced scratchbuilder, I can send you an article I have from Miltar's Kits Issue 4 (1992) where a guy did an OK scratchbuild/conversion of this vehicle.

I'm at the point of decision with this guy as well.  I may wait to see if I can dig up any documents from the TACOM archives.  If you saw in the recent Allied Axis book, the floor of the armored mount is crazy with all the perforations....

To T26E4,I realize I'll need two 40MM bofor's,But did the original carnation of the M-19 have an additional upper track roller like the later model [ I believe M-19 A-1 ]. I can get a pair of new Hobby Boss Bofors from the same buyer in the 40$'s & an old Italieri Chaffee quite cheap.I'd just rather not buy a second Chaffee if I can avoid it.The rest will be scratched. keith

Italeri does the only M24 Chaffee; they did two versions of it though, originally a postwar variant back in 1986 and then retooled it to make a WW2 variant about 10 years ago.

I'm glad you told me that,Rob.I'm looking for the ww2 variant,& I wasn't aware of that.This is starting to look like it'll be a long & challenging endeavour,so I wouldn't want to make the erroe.Thank for informing me. keith r.

With any luck, the WW2 version will be reissued. They go about a decade then re-pop. The kit was retooled in 2002-03 time frame so it's about due. Sadly, when they retooled the molds, it made the postwar variant rare; whatsever out there is out there. No more re-pops.

Building an M19 will be a lot of work, and you will most likely make errors there, just no way around it. I wish you good luck with this one. There is a little book called AFVisuals: The Duster by David Doyle, and about half of it is devoted to the M19, it even has technical drawings of the vehicle, which can be scaled up and used as scale plans. Also, you could take the twin 40mm mount from the Tamiya Duster kit, although it's pretty bad itself, but at least gives you something to start scratchbuilding with. Thanks Pawel.I evn have a "duster" in a Nam dio I did.It's basket does resemble the M-19.I'm sure I can find another Duster very cheap,just for that [ I'll Look again & see how near it matches,w/ scratching,it might help or at least be a foundation f/ the turret ] I'll try & track down that mag/book.Any Idea's where ? The walk around from Squadron/Signal concentrates on M42 and can not really help you with the M19.

Hi Roy.I last wrote in respose to your gracious & imformative reply to my Planned chaffee/M-19 conversion. I have gathered up pretty much everything I think I'll need to pull this of with one exception.That's what I'd like your or anyone's idea on the major stumbling block I see [ there are oters,but nothing that stumping me yet ] ,The turret of the M-19is very simillar to the Duster ,but with the addition of a virtual Ring of Metal  Ammunition storage boxes.Any idea's for a less time consuming way of replicating them other than plasticard & P/E latches ?I have plenty of visual Ref's of the vehicle,I just can't think of anything I can scavenge & modify from something already exixsting.Any Idea's would be greatly appreciated. My plan would be to make a single master box and cast many copies out of resin.  I probably will leave the wire latch off and install wire on each box.  I realize I still need to get you those scans.  Stay tuned...
