Nice to see some figures covering some of the other combatants, but they are not very active looking, most are just standing around. The frenchman on the lower left looks like he is posing for a cheesecake shot, not very tanker like. Tongue Tied

Well as a Brit i am saying nothing especially about the french or Americans. But nice to see some other countries figure sets come out. There is a good selection of Italian figures, but mostly in resin. I have a few of the miniart German sets and they look rather nice.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Yes indeed! There are plenty of German subjects out there. Russian and American subjects are a close 2nd and 3rd, with the Brit figures a distant 4th. But nearly all other countries have few choices. Dragon will probably release the Wehrmacht Heer 229th Mess Kit Repair Abteilung at Macho Grande before they do a set of Lovat's Commandos or Goums.Wink Keep up the great work Miniart!Yes

Will be getting the US set for sure.

And all joking aside I'm very happy to see more French and Italian stuff, I'll be buying them as well. Have been thinking that a dio of a Somua driving over one of those puny little German 20mm AT guns during the Battle of France would be cool.

Would like to see more Japanese soldiers and maybe some Chinese but I'm not complaining!

Hans, wasn't it about that time the story of the personal ad in USA Today came out?  "For sale:  One French assualt rifle.  Like new, never fired, thrown down once".

                                                                                                                      Pat.

Yeah, but I think they were in matched sets.. One French rifle, one Iraqi AK...

It's the old physics question:  If a French infantryman and an Iraqi infantryman each came around the corner of a building at the same time , which rifle would hit the ground first?

So is this an Allied set or mix of Axis and Allies.

Free French or Vichy?

Italians pre-1943 (Axis) or post-1943 (Allies).

Seems like neither could make up their minds.

At least the US has been on the right side, in my humble opinion.

Little bit off-topic, but relevant.. The French 6th Light Armored was out on our left flank during Desert Storm, about 100 miles from Baghdad when we turned East towards 73 Easting and Medina Ridge..... 'Course, the Iraqi Army was nowhere near Baghdad, and there weren't nobody BUT the French and some Bedouins out there... It was rumored after the war that that was the reason General Schwarzkopf put the French out there; knowing that they didn't have anyone to surrender to... Whistling

I doubt it's true, but it was funny... From a GI's point-of-view...Wink

I want all three sets. One can never have enough tank crews!

Yes the movie was based on the book. It was a good adaptation I thought. If you enjoy older war "historical" movies such as The Longest Day or The Dam Busters this one is in the same vein. If you read the book beforehand, you will have a better understanding of the film as you watch it. Not to mention you will gain a whole new perspective on the 1944/45 French Army. And look around for WWII subject books that are outside your focus areas. One suggestion I can give to you is the Normandie/Nieman Regiment of French pilots who fought on the Eastern Front alongside the Russians until VE Day. There is so much out there to add.Geeked I don't think that this is a hijacking at all. Just a broadening out from the original subject.

Thanks Stikpusher! Yes  Will see if it is available at my library.  Also, I recently added this movie to my Netflix queue... 'Is Paris Burning'.  Was the movie based on the book?  Because the movie was made in 1950's so I am not sure if it is that good or not.

It is good to know that Free French did not stop fighting as soon as they freed Paris.  It was just that it wasn't mentioned in many books or on TV other than freeing Paris.

Guys, sorry for hijacking your threat... must get this American tankers set!

LOL!  I was going to buy this French surrendering figure set from DML as I have B1 Bis from Tamiya.  And name the dio 'And Not Fired a Shot'.

I was wondering if any of you have been watching show on Military show recently?  It seemed to me that history is being re-written that Free French has freed Paris single handedly.  It didn't mention much how the Allies have helped especially with the Normandy landing to St. Lo and of course with all of the weapons & resources provided by US and UK...   sorry it will not change my perspectives.

Now my next question, did Free French help us continue fight to end the war after France was freed?  I don't see anything in my books. Tongue Tied

A book I would highly recommend you read Deafpanzer,is "Is Paris Burning". It is the story of the liberation of Paris written in the same style as The Longest Day or A Bridge Too Far were back in the 60s. And Yes the French did play a role in the defeat of Nazi Germany. Mind you, their forces by late 44 or early 45 were roughly the size on one US or British Field Army, but they were there fighting. Most Free French units landed in Southern France with Operation Dragoon/Anvil in August 44. While the Ardennes fighting was going on, another battle was taking place in the Colmar region. French forces there were ordered to fall back to shorten the lines and free up units to go to the Ardennes. They did not, and held the line against a German counter offensive in that region. Their troops would later drive in to Southern Germany, into the area that they would occupy post war, during the final offensives of Spring 45. Of course the 1944/45 French Army was completely dependent upon US sources for nearly all of their logistics, but the blood they shed in combat against the common enemy was French. Their achievements in battle then did not receive the same spotlight of history (much like the Australians in the Pacific in the same time period) but don't for a minute think they sat on their hands. There were many grudges to settle.

Do more reading my friend and don't depend too much on History or Military Channels for your sources. Their stuff is usually pretty mediocre lately.WinkGeeked

I crewed many different armored vehicles and tanks in my life, but I can't figure out how the French could could tank with their hands up like that.

These two are incomplete... No white flags...

I was wondering how long it was going to take before somebody pointed that out.

Read French "history", they won WW II with only a "little" (that wasn't really "needed") help from America, Britain and Canada.

Why a defeated nation like France ever got to be considered a Major Ally and get a permanent seat on the UN security council is beyond me.

Miniart will be releasing three new sets of WWII Tankers. French, Italian and US. These should add some nice figures to any future builds.
