I had Egyptian armor officers in both my basic course and advanced course here at Ft. Knox. There was even an Egyptian Colonel in my class at Ft. Lee when I went through the Army Logistics Management College. They use our stuff but also have a bunch of former Soviet armor that they received when the favored the Soviet Union as well as buying Russian designed armor built by former Warsaw Pact nations.
If you watch the daily show, he interviewed the head of the joint chiefs I believe, he said they ahve great relations with the egyptian military and 1000s of their officers trained at our military universities. Its no wonder they use our weapons.
Back when their MBTs were mostly that Soviet junk, I was working with some Egyptian armor officers at Ft McClellan.. Got into a bit of an arguement with an Egyptian Army Major that didn't like the way we trained to ID Friendly and Threat Tanks and AFVs... Told him, "Sir, you'd best be damned-sure your tanks approach ours with their turrets reversed, then."...

It came out what sounded to me pronounced Abrahams, but with different syllables, like A-Brah-Ams. So my guess is that it would go into the biblical Abraham. I'm guessing that the Qur'an or Koran would probably be in part the reason since it is very close to Abraham.
T26E4 Egyptian people speak Arabic, BTW.
Egyptian people speak Arabic, BTW.
Well, sure they do NOW. But that has only been for the last couple of centuries... I'm trying to look at this through the lens of history...

The only way it will settle peacefully is if the current regime steps down, without questions asked. Not too much chance of that happening.
If they did speak Egyptian, they could explain to all those ancient alien theorists that, no, aliens did not build the pyramids, and it is perfectly feasible for motivated people with an understanding of simple machines to almost singlehandedly move huge blocks of stone. Which would be awesome. Go Egypt!
Anyways, I just hope that all this settles out peacefully in Egypt, especially after the random(?) acts of violence that have taken place this past week. We don't need one of the few stable nations in the middle east tearing itself apart.

Bunch of great photos of a mixture on M1A1s and M60A3 (with and without TTS which is an odd occurance) in this thread at Missing Lynx. Also a mixture of various support AFV including M88A1s, M901 ITVs, T-55, BTRs, etc.

(apologies in advance to the tank folks here) If the Egyptian (or Saudi, or even Australian for that matter) M1s ever turn against us, remember that as long as we have carrier air groups and air force tactical and strategic assets we won't have to worry too much. We should be worried about the state of other peoples air defenses (and ours too).
Jeez, hope they doesn't turn against us or Israel...

I believe that the Egyptians opened up a production line to build the Abrams several years ago but, none have the DU armor IICRC.
Classic seeing the M60's and M113's together once again.

Doesn't really surprise me, to be honest - they are the second largest recipient of foreign aid from the US (next to Israel) and most of it goes to the military, who has to buy US weapons.
Still, a pretty cool pic...
I saw a picture with a platoon of M60s surrounded with a platoon of M1s which appear to have come up behind them, also stuck in a crowd. Apparently Egypt has over 1000 M1s--news to me.
