Just won a new and a partially assembled Pink Panther on e-bay last week. I will use the half-built panther to test my paint on. Will preshadowing with a base coat of flat black work before I apply the flat white?

Martian, go the Tamiya white. I have not used the Humbrol rattle can but one of the guys in my club used it for a Russian KV1 he built and he said Humbrol tends to be a little on the yellow side.

Haven't seen Humbrol in my area. i'll have to check. I have access to tamiya and Model Master [and of course Krylon from the department stores]. I just have never really used many of these paints.

I don't have an airbrush. Can someone recommend a flat white in a rattle can?

Thanks for all the help. So far all of the SFOR and KFOR vehicles are camo with white letters. The only white vehicles I have found are some hummvees and the 113. Still looking though...

Hi there.
Kitwise the Academy Warrior mcv comes with an option for a UN vehicle as does(i believe) the Afv club Scimitar. As for vehicles used by the British army in Un service, well there are a few. FV432 apc,Warrior MCV,ICV plus recovery versions,Bedford MK,Scimitar and I'm sure there's some i've missed.Revell do a MAN military truck in UN colours.

most of the vehicles I've seen on my last deployment all had there own nations camo cept they had either KFOR OR SFOR etc etc on the sides the exceptions have been the UNMIK police they have the UN on the sides of their vehicles and they are painted white with red doors. The only exception is the undercover vehicles and the uparmored suburbans for Spec ops and delta etc etc..

The UN vehicles are white with black markings.Having done 1 UN and 2 NATO tours the colour will vary from vehicle to vehicle and contingent to contingent.KFOR,IFOR and SFOR used the contingent's regular paint scheme with white lettering.

Vehicles on UN mission are flat white with UN in block letters on the sides, front, etc. There are exceptions to this, as stated above, some nations don't repaint their vehicles, but only put UN markings on them. US is one, apparently Italy is another. Best bet is to look for photos from UN missions such as SFORand KFOR (Bosnia and Kosovo), Provide Hope (Somalia), Provide Comfort (Post ODS Iraq), etc. and see who participated in it to model the vehicle you want. Just about all vehicles are represented by member countries.

every UN vehicle i have seen is mainly white but appears to have a light tint of blue into it as well, i think a really light shade of blue is the way to go with that, but i could be mistaken, ive just seen them in pictures.

Italian M-113 in Somalia retain the Euro camo and have UN painted in white on the sides.

Off the top of my head, Academy makes the Korean IFV (1385) and it comes with UN markings. Also one of the AFV Club W.German Wiesels comes molded in white and includes UN markings as seen in Somalia. That kit is the 20mm gun equipped one and not the TOW one. It is kit #AF35S-03.

Both kits also contain normal camouflage markings for their home nation. I do know there are several Russian vehicles that come with UN markings as well. One is either the DML BTR-70 or BTR-80 in peacekeeper markings.

I think rather than looking for U.N. Vehicles rather look for the individual commands like KFOR, etc.

AFAIK, the U.N. does not have specific vehicles but will use whatever is provided by member nations during each area of operation.
So they mix will vary greatly.

U.N. Vehicles
Posted by MartianGundamModeler on Tuesday, January 20, 2004 5:01 AM
I was planning on making a few U.N. forces vehicles one of which will be a Hummer. I think these vehicles would make an interesting subject and it's a fresh change from olive drab, camo, or desert schemes. So far i have only seen Land Rovers, hummers, M-113, and that armoured car from "Black Hawk Down".What color white are they? They appear to be either matt white or semi gloss white with matt black "UN" lettering. Has anyone ever built a UN color vehicle aside from the M-113? I have been scouring the web and all have found was pics of the hummer, rover, and M-113. I'd like to know what other vehicles may have born these colors and/or are wearing these colors now. As always any help will be greatly appreciated!Big Smile [:D]
