Been workin on this one for a few weeks, this is the kit I asked about doing a winter camo on.(there are a few pics here from the other post) Anyway, here's where she stands now, about 90 %. (I still need to weather the tracks and side skirts, maybe a cpl more filters on the actual tank)

Some very nice lookin' zimm here.

Make sure to sag those tracks and watch for "floating" roadwheels.

The gun cleaning stowage tube needs some work on that seam too.

Very nice effort on the whitewash. My only critique is that the wear looks like, well salt specks. In other words, I'm used to seeing larger and more irregular wear. You can use a hard bristle brush to sweep away more paint. Of course I don't know if you did the hairspray method, which is the only way that I think you can do this. This is in no way berating your work, because I think you've got the technique down, just an observation. Keep up the good work.

I must say that Dragon does a pretty good job of replicating the zimmerit.

"My only critique is that the wear looks like, well salt specks"....yeah, that was my thought, too. I have not done the hairsparay technique yet. Here's what happened( I think) I am a professional pitmaster, and I only use Kosher salt....and thats what i used. I think on the next one I'm gonna do 2 layers of salt before the whithwash, table salt and then kosher. Anyway....

Tonight I put on a cpl more filters, cleaned up and repainted the stowage tube, made a cleaning rod sticking out of the tube and drybrushed the tracks w/silver. Last cpl things to do are to dirty up the tracks w/pigments after I mount them, and I want some color variation on the rust on the exhaust. I think it needs some chipping too, but I am horrible at it and kinda scared to screw up what I already have. Other than that, I'm happy w/it and need to make a base for it. Thanks for all the input so far.

Don't be discouraged. I've never tried the hairspray method either. I'm thinking rock salt is used and you kind of bursh around to get a more worn appearance. I, myself am not a huge heavy weather and still need more practice with pigments too.

This cat is coming alive. Keep at it.

brutus1175,

Your cat is coming along.  Try not to get hung up on the "what if I screw up?", "What if this doesn't work". "What if this goes sideways?". "What if........" .  Well you get the picture.  You will surprise yourself with the "creation by mistake" approach.  If there is a juncture with a build that you are at and, it will truly make or break the build then, try out your experiment on an old kit, a sheet of styrene, or a part that is not needed.  Are you going to mess up? Yup, you are.  I had a Panther build where the hull top turned with a red tint.  I ended up re-spraying the hull top and redoing the camo.  Not trying to hijack your thread, all I want to do is show that a screw up can be fixed.  here is a link to the Panther I built two years ago. /forums/t/119709.aspx?PageIndex=12  Go about half way down and you'll see the reddish hull top.  Then, if you go to page 14 about half way down you'll see the correction.  It's not impossible.  It just may take time and some head scratching.

I hope this helps you get through the "What if's"

Cheers

Dave
