Kentucky Colonel

I went back and took another look at them and realized something. The "caps" are larger and look to go over the tube so they are "caps" rather than the  grenades themselves which are smaller than the tubes. So I guess they are the black caps used to cover the grenades themselves. I'll just paint them all black.

Thanks for the help.

Yep.

I just had a look at the kit parts and it appears that they are capped empty launcher tubes (without grenades installed).

On the few occasions we had the live smoke grenades, they were green. And those were the old style purely for visual masking. A SWAG says that the black ones are the newer visual/thermal masking ones.

Ok, I didn't know the black caps had to be removed. The pictures I have of the tank have them in light green. I thought it was two different kinds of  grenades.

So could I just leave them in black or should I try to paint them in light green as in the pictures?

There are, in fact, two types and they are either black or gree (though I can't remember which is which)

One is "standard" smoke which provides purely visual masking and the other provided both visual and thermal masking.

Hummm....I guess I'm too old....they want my younger brother  Big Smile.....Wink

Hey....for the WP smoke launchers, use a mix of 70% Tamiya Cockpit green and 30% Tamiya Flat White

No, the caps have to be removed before the grenades are inserted in the launcher. The caps are pretty snug fitting.

Stupid question: do the caps automatically come off when the grenades are fired?

If you are referring to the cylinders that stick out of the launcher, those are the grenades and they are a light green, similar to RAF Sky, just darker. Or as in this photo, itlooks like there areblack ones as well. And caps for the launchers are just black rubber.

I don't know if that's the right one or not. The one I'm looking for is a light green color. NATO green is way too dark.

What paint can I mix to get the smoke disharger caps on a USMC  M1A1. It's a light shade of green. I'm using mostly Tamiya and Valljo paints.
