1st Show of 2011 Fleet Air-arm Model Show.
Posted by Bodge on Monday, February 21, 2011 1:39 PM

Hi guys well into 2011 and the first show of the year for me is the Fleet air arm museum Model show.

This is always a good one as its location in an air museum is an added bonus to the event.

Packed all my stuff up the night before ready for an early start on Saturday morning.Left the house at 7.30 am and headed straight for McDonalds for a breakfast and a coffee, right set up for the morning now. Trouble free trip took about an hour and a quarter.

My mate Big E and his brother in law James arrived shortly after me and we all set up our stand with all our models on it. Then a quick cup of cha and we were of to look about. There were loads of exhibitors showing there wares. All of which was beautiful stuff. Every thing from Ships to Figures, Planes  Sifi , Dragons you name it it was there. Loads of traders as well. Model kits to Books to tools and accessories

I took some models of mine for the competition. These being

The schlepper with Flak 43

My German Ardennes Bust

My Rusty Chrysler 300

And last but not least my Timeout Dio

More to come.........

Put my stuff in the comp room and i was starting to feel a  bit sheepish, Darn there are good models being added all the time.Sad Oh well i will leave my stuff in the hands of the gods (judges then)

We went back to our stand and had lunch. We created a lot of attention at our stand as we had most of my Dio,s on show, alot of mine and Ians armour and Ians aircraft Models.  We were answering questions about our work all day. After another trip around all of the four huge halls filled with real aircraft with all our modelling world laid out underneath them it was time to take some pics.

Congrats on the wins.  I really liked your entries.  I thought your schlepper would have placed as well.  Must have been some serious tread-head competition.

Personally, if I enter anything this year, I'll be glad if it doesn't get moved to the "junior" category by one of the judges...

Cheers SmittyYes I am sure you are being too hard on yourself. Here are some more.

I didnt take too many pics of the competition as i would have liked but i was buzzing and had to share my news with my two buddies..

After i came back down to earth we went back for the prize giving to collect my awards.  The show was sposored by Airfix and so along with the certificates the gold winners recieved a model in keeping with the category. I recieved an Air field doirama kit with a Spitfire two trucks ,personal crew and a base to set it up on,   Nice, Thanks.

It came to the last award of Best of Show with the price being a nice Shiney Silver cup .

And the winner of Best of Show goes to Andy Argent for Timeout.          WOW Hold on Tongue TiedHuh?

I couldnt believe it .I went up to have me picture taken with the cup when the Airfix reprecentative said you also recieve  those ,pointing to a lot of limited edition multiple kit boxes . I said which one as there were four each with at least two kits in each box. He said all of them.WohSurprise . Not only that i recieved free membership to thier exclusive members club worth £25. Afree years subscription to thier mag including all back copies and a calender. What a haul . I was lost for words. I am not blowing my own trumpet here i am just letting all know what a feeling to get all of this at the first show of the year for a hobby i love doing . I was on a right old high. I just had to let some of you guys hear of my good fortune. Big Smile

Andy,

You should be proud.  Your diorama is seriously first rate stuff, and the judges knew it.  Quite a nice haul for BiS as well.  Cheers all around, great work!

No surprise at your awards Andy. Congrats on a job well done. There was some stiff competition there. I love the birds as well as the armor.

Cheers Steve and Tigerman. I should have taken more pics of the competition. What you see is a tiny fraction of what was there.I didnt even get any of the winning armor pics , there was about 40 or so aircraft in its class and loads of dio,s that i didnt get. Maybe my mate got some snaps.  There was some stuff i really liked but i got talking to someone before the judging took place and i had only taken what you see and after the judging i was on too much of a high to think about pics. Silly me.Embarrassed

From what I saw from your pictures, that must have been one tough contest to judge. I don't envy the judges at all. Thanks for sharing and congratulations on your winners!
