First japanese tank.
Posted by T-rex on Friday, February 25, 2011 12:35 AM

Here we are, Tamiya's 1/35 75 mm self propelled japanese tank, a simple but excellent kit, that was defenitly worth making. There maybe a few touches to do, but nothing really, the base on the other hand, well I tried making a jungle scene with the tank fireing into the distance, but the figures aren't done, and the ground work doesn't look realistic at all. But then again, I have no idea how to do jungle ground.

Nice marking for the tank, and note the Screw under the tank, this is the first model that I've attach it to the base, but not permanent.

Any advise for the ground work? Anything helps.

Well I 'm off to Africa, see ya in 2 months!

Working on: Trumpeter SU-152 (1/35) Trumpeter E-10 (1/35) Heller Somua (1/35)

I'm no expert on Japanese tanks or jungle groundwork. None-the-less, I like it. The camo pattern have always scared me off of these tanks. Guess I need to get over that.

The two things I noticed on the tank are the rust. I think the big rust spots on the front and especially on the tow rope are overdone. I mean you wouldn't want rusty tow-ropes that would break. I would seriously consider redoing them and just dirty them up instead of rust.

Good luck on your trip to Africa. Where are you heading to? Be careful, it's pretty looney over there right now.

I'll ditto Tigerman on the rust but otherwise she looks good to me. Always nice to see something different here.

Plus all Japanese tanks weren't based in tropical areas. I've never been to Asia myself but I think there were quite a few areas of temperate and even desert in the Japanese Empire at the time. Maybe you could throw in a little tall grass to get a more wild look.

Looking great!!! Yes I think the diomara looks just fine to me... like Gamera said make it look more tropical if possible.  You can tone down the rust... apply thinned burnt umber to hide it if it helps.   Always nice seeing Japanese armors because they are rarely posted here...
