Interesting topic!  It's not a piece of armor but about a year ago I completed Revell's classic 1/72 P-38 Lightning.  I spent so much time filling and sanding the seams on one engine that by the time I got the other boom, I just didn't feel like dealing with it anymore.  The same kind of went with the canopy.  The model now sits, quite well painted, I must say, but with a couple of strategically placed tarps over it.  One is over one engine and the other is over the canopy!  LOL!  Later on I'll build a diorama for it but for now, all the seams are covered with tissue paper "tarps".
