Tie Downs ?
Posted by BigJim on Thursday, March 17, 2011 10:28 AM

I am looking for some 1/48 - 1/50 scale tie downs ( hooks, chains, hoops, etc.) in order to tie down my military vehicles on RR flat cars. Can anyone point me where to find such items?

Railroad hobby sections will have what you're looking for.

O scale is 1/48.  Railroaders have to secure their train car loads too, so that would be the source. 1/48 military stuff is fairly new so there would not be a large selection.  Check out a Walther's catalog or the model railroad suppliers.

Try Model Expo for some of their smaller ship anchor chains.  I've used them for 1/48 flight deck tie-down chains.

If your interested in keeping costs down, one could always go to your local dollar store and/or hobby store(like Michael's or HobbyLobby) and pick up some cheap jewelry chains. Just look for the one's without gaudy decorations that are close to your scale and you'll be set.
