Help,Need Safe Way To Remove Paint

What I have found that works, is something that comes in a purple jug called Super Clean. Its a degreaser, found in the automotive section I believe. I was trying to remove some paint on a 1:48 StuG wheels and decided to try it, I mixed it with some water just incase it was strong. Once i dropped the wheels in, the paint came right off, no crubbing needed. Just make sure to rinse it all off before painting again.

Thank you very much. Any idea how that stuff reacts with glue and super glue? I just don't want to find my tank partially disassembled. Thanks again.

I've soaked individual parts in a container of Simple Green , undiluted . It removed enamel and acrylic paints without damaging the plastic , even if its a clear part . As far as cleaning an assembled model i've soaked the surface with a cloth saturated with the Simple Green and it has not loosened the plastic cemented bonds . It might weaken a C.A. bond though .

For stripping enamel I've always used Easy-Off oven cleaner. Needs care with handling as it's toxic (I spray the model and let it rest/soak in one of those cheap tote containers that I keep for this sole purpose)...let it sit overnight and the paint can usually be removed the next morning with gentle brushing and rinsing with water. Has never damaged plastic or glue/CA joints.

For stripping acrylic I simply use household acrylic floor stripper. The paint usually slides off as a single piece after only 30 mins and requires minimal clean-up with brush and water. This has never damaged plastic or glue/CA joints either.

No dilute.

Soak overnight...... 24 is better.

I didnt dilute the Simple Green and i also soaked the parts for a day . Heck , for the price i'd go with the Purple Power that Disaster recomended . Its half the price of Simple Green .

Thanks guys. I went out a got some purple power yesterday and gave the Panzer IV a bath. It worked out awesome,99.9 % of the paint is all gone and the decals totally vanished, no sign of them anywhere. This is some pretty potent stuff. She's now soaking in a tub of water. What should I do now, a bath in diluted soapy water, keep soaking in water?

Thats good to know . I saw this product at Wally's but passed it up because i had no info on it .

I guess if you want to be safe you could rinse it in warm water and let it dry . What does the info on the label advise ?

Just give it a good long rinsing with cold water, no soap needed.

Why cold water?

Just a matter of convenience.

DISHWASHING 101

 If you've ever washed your hands with soap and warm water and then went to rise them under the some warm running water you've probably noticed how long it takes to get the "slick" off your hand.

     1. SLICK equals the presence of soap residue.

     2. Squeakiness equals absence of soap residue.

  You'd be surprised at how many guys don't know this........

 So if you switch to colder water the "slick" soapiness goes away MUCH faster without any rubbing, and that can only be good for a model that's already been manhandled a bit already.

 Try it on a plate the next time you rinse dishes. Rinse one in cold water a minute and then rub your finger across the plate. When it starts squeaking that means the soap is gone.......

    and yes, besides sewing - I can wash dishes too.

Don't get me started on ironing....... 

(DISCLAIMER: in reality, common sense dictates that dishes SHOULD be rinsed under hot water for sake of sterility)
