M4A3 Sherman winter camo - need opinions please
Posted by joewhite on Thursday, April 14, 2011 11:36 AM

I need your opinion. I volunteered to help build models for a winter diorama at the local 12th Armored WWII museum. Can you please let me know what you think about the winter camo. I love tanks but since this is only my 2nd armor kit, I'd like to see what the pros here think. It's still not done and needs a little more weathering. Please tell me if the winter camo is over or under done.

It looks great!  I haven't done a winter camo yet but after looking at many pictures... you did pretty good.  Only thing caught my attention that didn't look right, no winter camo on the barrel.  After looking at pictures I googled, they usually had camo on pretty everything.  Again, great work!  I would add little more dirt.  I just love dirt!

Snowplow Needs to look whitewashed, with brush or mop strokes.

I've seen photos of Shermans in Belgium with white bed sheets and table cloths wrapped around the cannon barrel.  Might be an unusual touch to use white glue-dipped tissue on the cannon and elsewhere.

Notice the lack of unneeded smilies to convey a simple comment.

Thanks guys!!! I'm glad to know I'm headed in the right direction.

D.Panzer, yeah, I was using the barrel to hold on to the turret. I hate to seal until I'm done weathering. I use mostly those Tamiya weathering pastels, which I used for the white, and didn't want to get fingerprints on the turret so the barrel was gonna be last. But, I kinda like the bed sheet idea, Maj Mike!

Chazzer,  I agree, brush/mop strokes are definitely in order...thanks!!!

DMaster, thanks for the links!!!
