Weathering an Iraq war Abrams

Hello all, this is my first post ever on this fine website, and I am currently working on my first piece of armor. I usually do cars or planes, which are sort of easy to weather (I dont weather planes, because I like museum pieces). I was wondering how I would go about weathering the treads on my Abrams. Normally on cars, I run the tires with 220 grit sandpaper, to give them that 'road worn' feeling. I have weathered the bottom section of my tank and it looks dirty (in a good way). I want that same dirty look on the treads.
