What are these and how to paint them?
Posted by castelnuovo on Monday, April 25, 2011 1:43 AM

Gentlemen,

This is the plan for the rear panel on Dragon's Hummel in 1:35. I am reffering to those three long bars/rods below the door. Could somebody tell me what are they and what colour should they be?

Thanks...

They are ranging poles. They're usually painted with alternating red and white bands, though I'm not sure of the exact length of each red/white segment).

The proper name is Aiming Posts. Aiming posts are used as a reference point once a weapon is "laid" or surveyed onto the azimuth of fire.

The aiming post is painted with aternating red and white stripes. The stripes are usaully about 6"inches or in 1/35 about 0.18 inches

There is some debate as to wether or not the Germans actually painted them w/ the red and white colors, but it does add a splash of color to your model if you do so...
