Aiming Post, Q!
Posted by spacepacker on Tuesday, April 26, 2011 4:54 AM

I need to know if there was a standard length for Aiming Post's during WW11.

The info I have found shows 1mtr, which in 1/35= 28mm, but when I look at other modellers they seem to show theirs longer.

This is for a M7 105 howitzer.

So, come on you "Big Gun" boys; help me out...cheers....Kenny

PS would the dimmensions be the same for both Allied and Axis mobile guns

OK.....turn to page 26

http://www.redleg2scale.com/RBMI%20Info/Artillery%20Modeling.pdf

Two sections, each 1 meter.....pole when assembled is 2 meters tall

Now.....as far as German vs US.....I cannot say for sure but......

A specific length pole can be used for a number of survey activities used by the artillery. Now to blow minds....the used of a panoramic telescope and aiming posts was invented by Hogg, a German in 1906 (God I love artillery trivia)

Hope that helps

PS...here is an M7 view for you

Redleg, I had a bet with my wife that you would come up with the answere; She now does the cooking AND the washing-up for to-day.

As to the German Hogg inventing the Aiming post;; my memory is telling me "Poles" of fixed length for elevation where used to build the pyramids; and that was in 2500BC.

I some times think there is nothing new in this worldBig Smile.

Thanks for your input...cheers....Kenny

PS I like your M7Yes
