Shurzen were originally 5mm thick -- you can use some 0.05" sheet styrene and cut your own if you wish.

The Academy kit is a "clone" of the Tamiya kit, so if you look around for an Eduard set, you should find what you need. I will caution you though, replacing the schurzen plates is easy...replacing the mounts is a somewhat more complicated/harder task so bear that in mind.

The model is an "Academy" 1943 era with schurzen. I notice the schurzens are far too thick.

Do you know where I can get replacements ( photo etch ).

Probably any H's that were sans zimm were in the Kursk area during summer of '43; possibly some in Italy---so like Bill has stated, it would probably be a very narrow listing of units/schemes...

This is true. Pz IV H production started in late spring/early summer 1943 so a small number were produced before the introduction of zim starting in Aug '43. The introduction of schurzen happened before the intro of zim and pics exist of H's with the schurzen but not zim, so you'd have to check your markings and vehicle options depending on how concerned you are with that particular accuracy angle.
