barrels of fun

Any one out there done the photo etch wrap around barrels? I have a set of 30 cals from voyeger that has the rods that you roll the cooling jacket round. I just did one and it looks like crap. Ill have to save it for a damaged tank now. I'm gonna get some turned ones eventually but for now I can't let these go to waste.

Please tell us what the problem is. Perhaps you need to anneal the metal to make it conform. It is a topic that has been covered here before. Youtube it Google it Search the FSM archives I know its here someplace.

I've seen a lot of how toos but I can't seem to finish them off. Once I get them rolled aroun the ends. Along the seam taco on me. If I try to fix it, it the tube starts to crumble. Are they supposed to overlap or is it more of a butt joint.

Do you anneal the PE before rolling it? Doing that will make it much easier to roll.

Yeah I am annealing. It wants to roll but the trouble is with the edges joining.

im pretty sure it should be a butt joint, and you should use solder to join the halves.  Personally id use a turned brass one from Lionmarc or Aber.

I had the same issue with 1/72nd Eduard barrels for a B-24. Like you the problem was getting the seam to look right. They were passable but not brilliant. After doing 8 barrels i still couldn't get it right. I have decided in future to go with either resin or brass barrels.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Check out the Brass-Assist Tool from the Small Shop, roughly $75 incl. shipping, but AWESOME. I first noticed it in Armour Modelling by John Prigent.
