1/72 Panzer III - Tag Team Effort
Posted by oddmanrush on Saturday, May 7, 2011 9:02 PM

Hi guys. Thought I'd share a few pics of a modeling collaboration between myself and my father. My dad taught me the foundation of modeling when I was a kid...he used to build them and I used to fly them around the house. We made a good team, haha. These days, he builds them and then sends them my way for finishing. This is his latest build that I just finished yesterday. It is his first 1/72 tank so it bears a few blemishes but that comes with the territory, especially for a guy who just started modeling again after taking over a decade off. He has much improved lately and I have a back log of models that I need to finish for him! He just finished up AFV's 1/35 Centurion so look for that to appear soon.

Sorry I don't take great pictures but there it is. Hope you like it! I'm trying to convince him to join the forum but I haven't pushed him off the fence yet...he lurks.....he's probably reading this right now...Surprise

Thanks guys!

Jon

Looks awesome to me, I have a couple of 1/72 pieces to do, to get my chops back after a very long hiatus as well. I should be so fortunate that my first few attempts turn out that good after being away from it. Yes

Your Pz III looks great! Yes Which Ausf is it?  I assume any higher than Ausf J.  There's a GB for Panzer III and its variants rolling out on July 1st... perftect timing. Wink

Nice work on the III-M and in braille scale no less! The tag-team idea is a great one, like you I also had a "team" effort with my dad that started me in the hobby many years ago as a kid. It's great to see you rekindle that connection with your dad. Beer

That's cool. I wish my old man would hvae taken interest in the hobby back in the day. At least I shared it with my boys.

Thanks for the comments guys, I'll be sure to forward this to my father!

Subhuman, I wish you luck with your 1/72 kits and your return to the hobby! When it comes to armor, I've done a handful of braille scale kits but I prefer to keep away from them. Finishing them is a lot of fun, but I don't like connecting all those little pieces!

Andy, its as Ausf M/N...the configuration above doesn't match the requirements on the instructions but I've seen enough sources that indicate that there are a million and a half different possible configurations for the 'later' versions of Panzer IIIs. Too bad we're a bit late for the GB this time!

Bill, I had many good times with my father when I was in grade school. If I got a good report card he would bring home a kit as a reward. Of course, he'd do most of the work and I'd be chomping at the bit to play with the model he so labored over. He didn't mind though. Eventually he learned not to paint them, as my patience wouldn't allow it! Perhaps that's part of the reason why he has an aversion to painting them now.

Tigerman, like you, I intend to share my interests with my children. My son is only 1 yet so I have a ways to go. Interestingly enough, my daughter is fascinated with my hobby and makes me beam from ear to ear when she says "that's soooo cool dadda!" Of course, she is only 4 so it'll be a while before she'd have the attention span to actually sit with me.

Thanks again guys! Happy modeling!

Jon
