The Academy kit isn't actually the best representation you can buy, though it's the only 1/35 kit with an interior. Tamiya did one in 1/25 and Bandai in 1/48, but their interiors were truly awful, whereas I would award Academy a 50%. The best interior currently available is probably a resin aftermarket set, but I haven't got hold of any of them yet.
Dragon/Cyberhobby make the most accurate Tigers, though their high part count can be offputting for beginners. Tamiya come next, and their kits go together without a hitch. They produce Early, Afrika, Mid and Late versions. Dragon are even more specific, with some of their kits representing a single month's production version. It would not be surprising to see several more variants from them in the future.

All the major modeling companies make a Tiger I; Dragon, Tamiya, Academy, AFV Club, Italeri, and I may have missed others.
Having said that, there are a few Dragon/Cyberhobby Tiger I kits that go for over a hundred dollars. Money talks in the secondary market. These kits are outstanding and come with all the bells and whistles and are highly sought after.
Tamiya, Academy, AFV and some Dragon kits run about $25-30. Most Tigerholics don't bother with the Italeri, Academy or some of the Tamiya kits.
For some reason, the initial "as used in Tunisia" kits seem to go for more. Maybe a more popular period in the war perhaps? Probably because the first operational Tiger captured by the British was from this period and still survives in Bovington.
Tamiya's are pretty darn good, but Dragon has surpassed them in quality and bang-for-the-buck with all the extras and can for the most part be built OOB without AM needed.

Tamiya also does a late Tiger I in 1/35. Italeri makes an initial Tiger I and a late Tiger I and has a hybrid (a late war mix rebuild) due out this year. I have read wehre folks pooh pooh the Italeri Tigers, but I have seen them built up pretty nicely. Pretty much any variant of Tiger in 1/35 can be found among all the kit manufacturers out there...

I guess alot of people here would say yes, there are way to many Tiger I kits. The other two main companies are Tamiya and Dragon. Tamiya have a least 3 decent Tiger kits that i can think of, an Initial, Early and Mid. Not sure if they have done a Late version. Dragon has enough Tiger I kits to fill a LHS on its own. Many of them are often the same kit with different markings. I know there used to be a issue with kit turrest being the wrong shape, i am not sure which if any kits have corrected this.

I purchased a 1/35 Tiger 1 ( early) from Academy and am really intrigued by it. I was wondering , who else makes a 1/35 Tiger 1 that is a good representative of the real thing. I just wanted to build a Tiger 1 for the different theaters and/or battles during WW2. From what I'm reading in these threads, most everyone has built at least one of them. Is the market over saturated with these???
