Tools mounted and i did some touch up on the exterior with pastels and a light dry brushing .

Eric , Bill and Tread thanks for looking and your comments . I went ahead and mounted the mufflers . They were a good learning experience for me . I think i spent about 4 days , off n on , working on them . Thanks to Treads input i put more effort into them than i was going to originally. But they are close enough for this build . I can improve on my technique on my next models .

Details are looking sharp and really going to bring this one to life Carl, always look forward to seeing your next little update on this project.

Really like the tonal variations on those jerry cans.

How do we know if it is not an 1:1 scale mufflers?  They look great... way too real I am telling you!  What did you use to create the surface texture? 

Cool Andy ! Thanks for the very encouraging comments ! Hopefully the last attempt will look as good .

Andy ,what i ended up doing is using lacquer thinner applied with a stiff brush and then stippled the surface with the brush to make it rough . I painted that panzer gray , then dry brushed with rust and over that with leather , all model Master enamel . finally i touched it up with some pastel chalk colors .

Oh yeah , Harbor Freight , they carry a multitude of tools at low prices and are on line and also have a store in Spokane and other cities ,I get their sale add via snail mail

Hey , dont give me that stuff about getting advice , i've seen your attention to detail that you apply to your models . So i'm off to touch up my muff's .......................

just a very tiny bit at the pipe. outlet itself....I read somewhere that the Germans ran their engines a bit rich in the fuel mixture..helps cool the combustion chamber, but results in sooty deposits at the exhaust exit.

if you really want to get technical about it, the inlet pipe to the muffler could use a touch of brighter orange because it is the hottest part of the exhaust, the metal oxidizes faster which results in fresh bright rust....but just a hint.... stay on the conservative side. Hope I'm helping not hurting... It feels very odd to me to give advice to anyone... as I work on my models , they are always in a constant state of a new experiment... really well established modelers like Bill P, Redleg,Steve (DM) Doog Wingnut.YOU. these guys built many more models than I...

Tread , are your referring to the exhaust pipe itself or the muffler surface behind / below it ?

O.K. !.... now how about just a hint of soot blow back around the exhaust pipe itself?.. ain't I a ballbuster ?

Bill , i'm ok now , new day .......new challenges . I tried several different metods with the rusty mufflers and spent about 3 hrs on them . Bot hey , it was fun and i picked up a few new methods .Some times i get in a rush to get done and regret it .

If you can get ahold of RustAll you'll never regret it. If it needs to be rusty RustAll is the best bet.

Got this done tonight and i'm satisfied with the results . I never tried the method i used on this before but it all worked out well .................imo.

Oh, I think it looks great And the muffler texture looks super! Honestly!

If I can find those pics, I'll try to post them after I unpack if you still have this going..
